TCC with blood disorder

Hi ladies,

I recently suffered my first MC on 7/6/20 and have decided to start trying later on in the year.

I can’t help but feeling that my blood disorder (Factor V Leiden) May have played a part in this potentially. I’m not sure.

Apart from the recommended supplements to take whilst TTC, is there any other advice anyone has for me who has this blood disorder or a blood disorder?

I want to make sure I do everything right

X

I am sorry about your miscarriage.

I just wanted to reassure you somewhat - I have Factor v Leiden and have a 4 1/2 year old and another daughter on the way. I am on blood thinners which I inject daily - I was on them from 28 weeks with my first pregnancy and from 6 weeks with this pregnancy.

I do find that in my experience not many antenatal health professionals are aware of this condition! I get blank looks from the midwives whenever it's mentioned! There wasn't even space to mention it on my booking in form but luckily I already had a consultant appointment booked so the midwife didn't 'need' to know too much at that time.

@niki26
Thank you for your message.

I’m so happy to hear of someone who has had two successful pregnancies.

Before my MC I self referred to the hospital and wrote this down on the form.
I inherited it from my mum who has had 2 DVT’s, but I haven’t.
I suppose when the time comes it will be something I discuss with my midwife at my first appointment and she can decide what week to have to have the blood thinners.

I want to make sure next time that I know what I’ve got to do x

I should have mentioned that my sister also has the condition - she had three successful pregnancies before getting a blood clot in her leg which led to her getting diagnosed. Unfortunately she also developed a clot in her liver which was undiagnosed and her fourth pregnancy resulted in a stillbirth. This was managed successfully in her fifth pregnancy. She then had a MMC a year or so later but that was her first miscarriage.

It is a lot more common than you'd think - a friend of mine has it and didn't need blood thinners, she just had to take aspirin.

@Chicken123 I have factor v and also had a MMC last year. I was on aspirin from 6 weeks but baby stopped developing at just over 9 weeks. Consultant seemed fairly sure factor v didn't play a part as I was on aspirin but they've already advised me that when I fall pregnant again I need to take aspirin straight away from positive test and then I'll be on heparin from 6 weeks. I'd discuss with your GP again and maybe request a referral - it was gynaecology and haematology that have advised me

I should also add I have family members too with factor v and all have children. Most didn't even know they had it when they had children. Others just took aspirin and were advised that one gene is very unlikely to cause any issues. Because it's a genetic condition it tends to run in families as it's passed down. My dads side of the family all seem to have one gene

@niki26 @Fizzl
I’m so sorry for the losses with yourselves and family members. It’s not easy.
But I’m glad that everyone has had successful pregnancies with the condition and that professionals didn’t think that it was part of the cause to MC’s.

I’m feeling much better each day regarding my MC last week and although we said we’d wait, I’m very excited to prepare to try again x
