Recurrent Chemical Pregnancies, anyone seen a GP?

Hey everyone,

So I’m 37, ttc for 9 months now, about to start 10th cycle.

I had a mc at 9 weeks in January of this year, followed by a chemical in March, and have just experienced another chemical this month. So 3 early losses within the past 6 months.

It would seem getting pregnant isn’t so much of an issue as my body being able to keep hold of it.

I’ve got a telephone appointment with a dr next week but wondering if there are certain tests I need to be trying to push for?

I’m not going to be wanting to go down full on fertility treatment routes like ivf etc. Just wondering what they might suggest doing, or what I can suggest. Baring in mind they may not do anything as I already have children from a previous relationship.

So far my thinking is that it could be an egg quality issue, low progesterone, or perhaps a rubbish lining (I’ve had previous c sections so scar tissue could be a problem). What else could be causing the pregnancy not to stick other than just bad luck?

I want to have my appointment armed with as much knowledge as possible.

Thanks 😊

@MgW1 I suppose it is much lower. But since it's bacteria it can be caused by other things as well. But of course it could be something very simple. Tommy's do all sorts of tests with the initial blood test including testing for blood clotting disorders which isn't done by GPs (not sure if they offer it in local RMCs). They also have a few medical research trials going which they could suggest to you if they find you meet the criteria, which otherwise you wouldn't be able to take part in.
My husband and I have had karyotyping done too due to our TFMR baby having a chromosomal disorder. They did not check my progesterone but I was given a prescription for it anyway, to take from the next positive test. Unfortunately this didn't help and I had the 4th loss on progesterone. There's a Tommy's Facebook community which is great and you might get more help in terms of what's actually tested for in the beginning, I'm sorry I don't remember everything but it all came back fine (thyroid, kidneys, liver, blood clotting etc...)
Where abouts are you based? I'm under Professor Quenby in Coventry and she's absolutely fantastic. Tommy's have other clinics in Birmingham, Manchester and London too.

@NoCallerID
Im in york.
How do i get referred ? G.P ? Can travel to manchester. I am so glad you have got the appropriate support and treatment. Its so stressful.

NoCallerID · 01/03/2021 16:36

@MgW1 Yes you'll have to be referred through your GP, stating Tommy's at St Mary’s in Manchester. If they need a name on it, I think it's Prof Myers. You can also contact Tommy's directly and ask what the process is. I had to do this as my GP wouldn't refer me after 2 MCs and they said they accept after 2 and I think my GP had to put something on the referral... I really hope it all works out for you.

MgW1 · 01/03/2021 16:38

@NoCallerID
I am sure it will do and I hope it works out for you too, good luck and i hope you have a healthy pregnancy v.soon!

Hi All
Hope nobody minds me jumping on this post. I have been reading through the thread and you are all so lovely and supportive, I am so sorry for everyone's losses.
I have now had 3 chemical pregnancies in a row and am currently 6dpo to see what this cycle brings - I am extremely nervous.
I had to self refer to a private clinic as my GP wouldn't help me as I already have a healthy 3 year old girl. I have been prescribed cyclogest pessaries to starting using when I next get a BFP but I am scared to use them as they don't sound pleasant 🥺 all my tests came back fine and the consultant just said try these and see as they won't do any harm 🤷‍♀️

@Icklemissgem
Hi there
Hope your ok , all sounds v.stressful. i have been referred but not been seen yet , informed its approx 13 week wait so will see what happens. What are the side effects of the pessaries ? Is it that your worried about or because its a hormone ?

choccrumpet · 07/03/2021 10:03

Hi everyone, I've had 3 chemical pregnancies and have been referred to a specialist by my GP but no idea how long the referral will take. I asked my GP about aspirin and she couldn't prescribe it but heard of specialists prescribing it. I did my own research and decided to try aspirin this cycle from my fertile week as there is nothing else I can do. My period is late at the moment but not yet sure why. I've also got a pelvic ultrasound booked in a weeks time to make sure everything is okay. There was nothing else my GP could do so we decided to keep trying and hope we are successful before the referral comes through.

Icklemissgem · 07/03/2021 10:26

@MgW1 I think just because it's hormonal and also because there pessaries you have to insert twice a day and it's just given me the heebie jeebies, also if this doesn't work feel like I have nothing else left to try.

I hope your referral comes through quickly 🤞🏻

@choccrumpet sorry to hear about your losses sounds like we're in the same position as I've had 3 also 😞
I hope you get seen soon 🤞🏻

NoCallerID · 07/03/2021 20:53

@Icklemissgem try them, they're not awful at all. You just put put them in and then the only thing is that some residue/wax might run out which is a bit annoying but to be expected. Unfortunately it didn't do anything for me.
Again, I can suggest reading up on the CERM trial and possibly contacting Tommy's directly. 🤞🏼

Hello ladies
I hope you don't mind me joining your thread
I am also seeking answers after my fourth chemical pregnancy
Currently waiting on a clinic appt for the recurrent MC clinic at my local hospital , I have had my bloods done as has my partner (some genetics bloods)
I have tried to look into private clinics but struggled to find anywhere this specialist?
I looked for a way to find out about the natural killer cells clinic in Coventry but I couldn't find any details, I'm assuming it is maybe currently closed
If my local hospital tests show nothing and they are unwilling to prescribe progesterone or blood thinners then I think I will ask for a Tommy's referral
I have one DD who is nearly 2, had an emergency c section with her so wonder if that has anything to do with it

Xx

MgW1 · 07/03/2021 22:46

@blackcurrantqueen
I have children too, i dont know if there is a problem or just bad luck 🤷‍♀️ xx

Hey all, I hope you don't mind me joining.

I have started some private miscarriage tests after 2 miscarriages in 6 months (May and November 2020) - testing thyroid, autoantibody, genetic thrombophillia, thromboelastogram and antiphospholipid.

I have to have one final comparison test for antiphospholipid shortly but due to a minor accident there is a good chance I could be pregnant this month (the second tests cannot be taken if pregnant).

Has this happened to anyone else? Can they savour any of the results from the first round? I would have thought some of the tests are complete given it's only the antiphospholipid which is taken a second time.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks
