Redundancy and TTC

Hi ladies

I’ve posted on here recently about TTC etc

We were all set after a chemical to try again this month, raring to go as soon as my period had finished! However I have been told I unfortunately may be made redundant. Myself and my boyfriend have discussed where we stand now. We’ve been together 6 years, I am 30 next year and we both feel as though this is the perfect time to have a baby. We feel more ready than ever! I just worry that we’re not thinking clearly, I may be out of a job and pregnant! But then I think we can’t put our life on hold, I have a high qualification in hairdressing and I am a master colour expert with wella which took me years to train for. So that’s always something to fall back on!

All the ladies on here are always so great with advice. I would really appreciate your words of wisdom! If I do get pregnant this cycle (wishful thinking!) and do also get made redundant, would it be awful to get a new job and then tell them I’m expecting?! I know legally you can’t be sacked for being pregnant however I would feel bad! Again OH says I’m overthinking this!

Hey,

I’m not sure I can be much help but am in a similar situation. DH and I were waiting until I passed my probation in a new job before ttc which happened in March. We then went into lockdown but we started ttc anyway because it felt like we had already put it off for so long when we had wanted it to much - there’s never a perfect time as they say. I’ve been on furlough since April and whilst my company are remaining positive and have not yet mentioned redundancies I am in a very badly hit industry that will take much longer than most to recover so it’s looking more and more bleak as time goes on. I’m so reluctant to stop ttc but know in my head that it’s not a sensible time to get pregnant. If I did lose my job it would be difficult to find another as all similar companies will be in the same boat.
I’m approaching my FW and we’ve decided to keep going this month. My thought process is that if we didn’t and I lost my job then we would end up having to put it off for potentially another year (time to find another job and then get through the probation period) and I just don’t want to do that so I’m taking the risk. It’s a big one as I earn almost twice what DH does so we’d struggle financially.
So I can’t exactly help but though I’d say hi and that we’re in a similar boat. I think it will be hard to look for a new job while pregnant when there will be so much competition BUT I also think it will be less ‘frowned upon’ than in normal times and people are likely to have more sympathy for your situation

I am in the same boat as you, I will possibly be loosing my job in August. We have put off trying for another for the last 6 years and I couldn't bare the thought of stopping. I'm on cycle 3 and just hoping for the best.

No advice but in the same boat. Was put on furlough for May and told no risk to my job at all just down to reduced work load. We continued TTC then literally the day I entered my TWW got told I'm being made redundant from end of July. Then today I get a faint positive waiting to test again tomorrow and have a digi confirm it but the timing is awful, we have been trying since November so it's a long wanted positive but eurgh what do we do. I think I will look at temp jobs as doubtful I will get full time employment in the current situation esp when there are lots of redundancies in my field already a non pregnant person would have am advantage over me immediately! Wishing you luck with whatever you decide. Sorry I don't have any actual advice!

Sorry about the redundancy. I had the same a few years back. Its a blow, but a change can also be a good thing. Although you wouldn't get enhanced mat leave, you should still get the pay based on your previous wage- statutory maternity I think? (sorry, never know which one that is!)

A salon I used to go to often had temp/agency hairdressers in there. Would this be an option, even if just till you get another full time job? Would having your own door-to-door service be an option? Even just doing this part-time between another job? I realise this is in the future when things re-open.

I wouldn't hold off TTC. I waited till we were married age 32, and still TTC 9yrs on!!! You just never know, but things will work out even if you did get pregnant early on. x
