Hi,

I thought I would give this forum a go.

I did not think conceiving would happen like magic, but I was, I suppose, sort of under the impression that the main reasons for it not happening straight away would be things like age, irregular cycles, stress, etc. or effects from having used the contraceptive pills for about 15 years (but stopped this year).

However, I've been stuck at home for a good 4-5 months now, and my cycles have been a regular 25-28 days in length, with ovulation around day 13 each time. I'm 29, never smoked, take it very easy on alcohol and caffeine, good weight, exercise regularly, no health conditions, and so forth. (And yes I did test for ovulation last month to be sure.) Everything seems 'normal' hormone and period-wise, and due to working from home we have had lots of nice alone time so there has certainly not been any chance of missing any window...

It has not been six months or a year yet, but I guess I am a little surprised nothing at all has happened? Could there be a problem, and if so, what could it be? My friends seem to all have taken around 3-6 months, but that was including balancing out things like irregularities after stopping the pill and stress.

I don't think there's anything to worry about at this stage. It's just a lot trickier to conceive than most people realise. There's only like a 25% chance per cycle even if you get the timing perfectly right. Lots of people on here are further along their TTC process than you with nothing wrong with them :). Remember as well, 15 years of the pill might also take your body longer to recover from than just a couple of months!

Also you speak entirely about your own body but remember it takes two to tango so could likewise be on your partner to improve his chances and not just you. Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with your OHs men potentially, I just don't want you to jump to the conclusion that it's all on you!

I would say ask OH to do a sperm analysis if you can. We did it privately after trying for 6 months and one MC and found out low morphology and slowish sperms.
My dp is 28 no smoking or drinking, very fit and never had a health issue in his life... so it came as a surprise but helped us understand.
And the private fertility clinic here said that normally people should get pregnant within 6 months of actively trying...
You can get pregnant with this type of underlying issues but you can also take much longer for no obvious reason.

But i know in the UK they ask for a year of trying especially with nhs.

It might not be you.

Thanks everyone. I did consider it's not me of course, but that is even more difficult to figure out (by yourself at home, that is). He has the same profile as me anyway, healthy, etc.

Same as me and my partner, both healthy, don't smoke, hardly drink. I have regular periods too. We are now in our 12th month TTC. My friends all got pregnant much quicker too. I think it can just take longer sometimes. I'm now having blood tests and the doctors and my partner is going for semen analysis too. To see if there is anything we need help with! Good luck on your journey Smile
