So, you are expected to wait a year of TTC before seeing a GP.
Does this 1 year period still apply if you not having normal cycles - I have had 4 periods in 8 months
Any advice please x

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. 4 periods in 8 months since coming off the pill. We actually stopped TTC a few months ago because of the pandemic, but I'm still going to go to the doctor next month as the period situation is not normal. This month ive started using the Clearblue fertility monitor out of curiosity to see if/ when I ovulate, so far I've had "high fertility" for 13 days now, CD30.... no sign of ovulation yet. I think if things aren't normal, you don't have to wait a year.

I would go and see your GP and ask to get referred to a gynaecologist so they can investigate your periods/cycle.

@Fujexa 13 days! It gets so frustrating doesnt it. I'm on CD46 and no sign of ovulation. Actually had a positive ovulation test too last week but know I didnt ovulate as my bbt didnt rise.

@daisy. Thanks. Think I will do that, might still be a while off if they aren't seeing routine appts etc but at least it will get the ball rolling.

I've read it depends on your age too. Over 35 = 6 months instead of a year x

DaisyChainsForever · 01/06/2020 09:31

Yes agreed, i was referred to a gynaecologist at the beginning of March and i've heard nothing yet.

Elouera · 01/06/2020 09:40

It depends on your age. I originally saw my GP age 35 and was told I was 2 weeks too early for any testing, as I'd only been TTC 11.5mths at that stage!!! I was told to de-stress and not worry and it was very patronising. Multiple visits later, I finally had a hormonal blood test which was normal. No further tests were done at all and I wasn't referred. Its now 9yrs TTC with 3 losses and a new GP!!!

I would hope that with irregular periods like yours OP, the GP would refer you on those grounds to a gynae, but I don't know what their criteria is? I'd be inclined to stretch out your TTC time a bit- yes I know that is cheeky, but you clearly have something going on. x

Flower2bomb4 · 01/06/2020 10:34

@elouera I really feel for your situation. I can't believe your GP would respond in that way over a matter of 2 weeks!! I really hope you have something positive soon.
Thanks for the advice x

OP- Have you always had such irregular periods, or is this new? What investigations have you previously had about it? Do you have any other symptoms which might indicate gynae problems- excessive hair, difficulties with weight, thin hair, painful or very heavy periods? How old are you?

Flower2bomb4 · 01/06/2020 11:37

@elouera
They havent regulated since I stopped taking my pill which I started when I was 15, im now 29. Therefore, have no real idea of what my normal cycles should be.

I have no other indications at all. I'm very slim (not underweight), no excessive hair, almost zero pain with periods. The periods that I have had recently have been quite light if anything. My last one was barely anything. X

@FlowerBomb4- Its certainly worth speaking to your GP. Hopefully they will at least do some hormonal blood tests for you, and then possibly gynae referral. Even if you did get a referral now, the hospitals will still have a backlog of other patients that were cancelled to get through 1st. Certainly worth getting the ball rolling though. Best of luck x

Flower2bomb4 · 01/06/2020 11:50

I will certainly do that. Thanks for your help x
