Hi there
So I have have always had long cycles (average of 8 weeks). I have never gone to the gp and found out why as it didn't really bother me until I was TTC. We have been trying now for almost six months and I think my long cycles might be holding us back. I want to get prescribed ovulation inducing medication such as clomid, but I'm just wondering how the process works? Obviously I need to see my gp but is that still possible at the moment with everything that is going on? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I was in the same boat as you and ended up making a private appointment with an obstetrician. I got the appointment within 2 weeks, he prescribed me clomid there and then and I was pregnant with twins the next month. Did lose one twin but that's a different story. The private appt cost me £150 but it was £150 well spent imo. Good luck x

There is a long running clomid thread on here, I believe. I would chat to the very knowledgeable ladies there. You can get it privately as a pp did, but it has greater success if combined with follicle tracking from memory - ultrasound. I had no children so met nhs criteria for my area and it only took me 8 weeks to get a prescription. I think I had to have usual fertility blood tests first

You could kick start process by requesting referral from your gp

Via a telephone appointment

There will be a maximum number of cycles they will let you have due to risks if you have loads. So you don’t just want to get it quick, you will also want to consider maximising effectiveness of the cycles you are having

I also had very long cycles and finally got pg three times not on clomid! At 35, 36 and 39. I would also recommend the book taking charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler because that helped me work out when I was ovulating and focus my efforts better and then get pg!
