Progesterone supplements- now bleeding and it was supposed to stop bleeding, confused and sad

hi, I'm 7DPO first month on progesterone that's supposed to stop my spotting. And I've had a bleed in the night. I don't know why or what this means but I'm gutted. The progesterone was supposed to stop me bleeding, I've bled more than usual for my spotting. I'm so confused. Has anyone else had this on progesterone? If so did it stop as quick as it started?

Hiya. How are you tracking your ovulation?

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 10:47

@peperethecat Hi, OPK and BBT

How long is your luteal phase normally and how much progesterone are you taking?

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 10:51

@peperethecat my normal luteal phase is 13/14 days I'm on 400mg suppositories a day x

peperethecat · 25/05/2020 10:54

Oh that's weird. Does your temperature stay high throughout the luteal phase?

peperethecat · 25/05/2020 10:56

In previous cycles I mean, when you weren't taking the progesterone.

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 11:00

@peperethecat that is my normal luteal phase. I'm on progesterone because I spot from day 7 without fail. But never get full AF until 13/14 DPO. This is my first month on progesterone.

Maybe stupidly I stop temping after I've confirmed Ov. I will do it tomorrow morning and see if it's dropped.

Sometimes this happens while your body adjusts to pills that affect your hormones. Maybe give it a few weeks and see if it improves

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 11:02

@chocolatebuttons1 yes I am jumping the gun. Will have to see what the next few days bring I guess.

I wouldn't bother temping now you are on progesterone supplements. Progesterone is what causes your temperature to be high during the luteal phase.

If you weren't taking progesterone and you had a 13 or 14 day luteal phase with high temperatures throughout then I would suggest that low progesterone isn't actually your problem. But since you don't know what your luteal phase termperatures are like without taking progesterone then it's hard to tell.

How did you manage to get it prescribed? Most doctors in the UK won't even prescribe it to prevent miscarriage.

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 11:37

@peperethecat I had progesterone tested 7-10DPo and it's too low from 8DPO so I got it prescribed by a private fertility clinic.

Fair enough. How long have you been TTC?

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 11:47

@peperethecat I'm on cycle 21. Such a shit journey for anyone struggling. Are you ttc?

OP posts:
peperethecat · 25/05/2020 11:59

Yes, I've been trying for just over a year but I've had four losses. I'm on progesterone too as a precaution but I don't think my problem is actually related to low progesterone. It is a really shit journey, I agree. Especially when other people seem to have it so easy.

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 12:01

@peperethecat I'm so sorry to hear that. It is just so unfair and I find the lack of awareness in society and silly things ppl say that have no idea etc make it so much harder.

I'm lucky in that I haven't had a lot of comments that have been difficult to deal with. My in laws in particular would just never mention any of this stuff unless we brought it up.

But I was at a family event yesterday where everyone was admiring our new nephew (who was born on one of my due dates in March and his mum got pregnant first cycle trying) and her parents started asking when there would be cousins. We aren't related to them, only quite loosely connected by marriage, so it would have been inappropriate to tell them to mind their own business and we just had to suck it up, unfortunately.

MrsC2018 · 25/05/2020 12:13

@orangeloo are you taking Cyclogest pessaries? If so are you taking them vaginally or rectally? I've taken them for IVF and found the first transfer I took them vaginally, I bled on day 12 when the pessaries should have held off a bleed. The next 4 transfers I took them rectally and didn't bleed until 2-3 days after I stopped taking them. Therefore, certainly in my case, the absorption was much better rectally.

FYI, this final transfer worked and I am pregnant, but I've had bleeding on and off from 5-8 weeks. I'm now off the progesterone as it's only used to support IVF pregnancies until 12 weeks, but other women I know have taken 3 pessaries a day (my dose has always been 2) or progesterone injections (?Lubinon) sorry can't remember the brand name. Hopefully your clinic will be able to give you some advice?

orangeloo · 25/05/2020 12:19

@peperethecat ah that is rubbish. I hate moments like that you just want the subject to change as quickly as possible.

@MrsC2018 ah thank you, that is interesting. And huge congratulations. I do take them rectally as the nurse said it's less messy and better absorption that way. Yes if it doesn't turn out to be implantation I will speak to them about it.

@MrsC2018 and yes it's cyclogest
