Help a Girl Out - Confused About EWCM & OPKs

Hi all :)

Hoping you guys might have experience with a similar situation or may be able to shed some light on this...

This my my first cycle TTC and I'm on CD14. I'm using OPKs and have been daily since CD5 after AF finished. My Premom app is predicting ovulation on CD17, and yesterday I got EWCM for the first time in this cycle. I got pretty excited thinking that ovulation was coming, but today I have no EWCM and am still getting negatives on OPKs. Anyone had this kind of thing happen before? Or know what might be going on? I get a faint line on my OPKs everyday and for the last three days it's been increasing ever so slightly according to the TC ratio when I input the results into my Premom app, but nothing to write home about. Think i wouldn't be fussing so much if EWCM arrived yesterday and then is no more today. Any ideas?

Hey ☺️ @Sho2207 thanks for checking in. I did, sort of! I got a dark line on CD20 at 10.30am - I wasn't testing until 2ish before, but OH and I were going out for a long walk with the dog that day so did it quickly in the morning before I went. By the time we got back home it was gettinf fainter again. It crept up on me as I didn't have lines getting darker or anything, just all of a sudden that morning.

Have attached a photo - it was so close to being just as dark as the control line, so think I possibly missed the peak. Although I started temping about a week ago and my temp hasn't risen, so not feeling certain I actually ovulated, but who knows. If I did I'm 3DPO now. How are you getting on? Xx

@Sho2207 forgot to attach the photo xx

@MintGreenLife
Ooh definitely looks close to a positive!
Possibly could have missed it but it's ok as long as you're having regular bed time ☺️ fingers crossed for you!
I'm 10dpo today I think, I've had nothing ☹️
I was getting pelvic and back pains 7dpo through to 9dpo with a few cramps, but I also tested all three of them days and got stark white bfn.
I was gonna take today as my last test day before I give up and just wait for AF. My OH keeps telling me he has hope and that it could still happen, but I just know my body and I feel no different whatsoever, I'm just kinda getting myself prepared now for next cycle. My last pregnancy happened on 3rd cycle so I'm hoping it's a lucky number for me ☺️ x

@Sho2207 I'm just thankful I got some sort of a surge as must mean my body is doing what it's meant to be doing...or at least trying!

Sorry to hear about your BFN. Are you going to keep testing for a few more days? It's funny isn't it but I'm sure you must get an intuition as to whether you've been successful or not. I just have a feeling we won't have managed this time. I'm only 3DPO so I know I wouldn't have any symptoms or anything, but I just feel like it probably won't be our month. We DTD the two days before ovulation day, but then by ovulation day after two days in a row OH ended up saying he felt too under pressure and we didn't manage. Otherwise we've been going for everyday day, but did miss a couple of days out. I'm not sure how to manage the feeling under pressure thing, as even if I told tell him it's my fertile week he will know as I'm aiming to DTD everyday then. Think maybe we might be better sticking to every other day throughout my cycle so then he won't be aware of when I'm ovulating. He just said he became very aware of the fact that 'it mattered' and then felt under pressure x

@MintGreenLife
Yeah I too get very excited when I see the surge.
I'll probably test today and if that's bfn then I'll wait for af to show, I'm more relaxed about it all now. It's very annoying having to go through the testing of opks each and every month but I know it'll be worth it in the end.

My partner also says the same thing, once I've ovulated I lose any kind of sexual drive unfortunately for him. I do feel guilty because it almost seems like I only want to dtd when I'm fertile and ovulating 🤦🏻‍♀️
I think for the next cycle we're gonna start dtd a couple days before the surge. This time I got my positive on CD16 so we'll probably dtd starting CD13.

My pregnancy in March started with slight pains in the pelvic area and loads of spots, that was it. Hope it happens for you this month xx

MintGreenLife · 02/06/2020 10:56

@Sho2207 I was thinking about getting the clear blue digital OPKs, have you had any experience with them? I was thinking I might use the cheap ones throughout the month, and then around when I think I might ovulate use the digital ones, or perhaps keep on with the cheap ones and then when the line starts to get darker switch to the CB, although like I said I had no warning of my darker line this time around!

Ah I'm so glad you said that as I feel the same now I'm in the second half of my cycle. Must be tricky for them to have it loads for a few weeks and then hardly at all eek. I'm going to try and keep it up throughout the month, but not as much in the second half as think it'll be too much for him otherwise if we go at it like crazy for a week and then nothing ha. This cycle we started from CD6 as soon as AF was finished as I had no idea when I would ovulate, may start going for every other day a little later this time.

In a way it's good to know what to look out for, but your body could respond differently next time in terms of symptoms. At what point did you start getting pelvic pain and spots?

Thanks so much, will keep my fingers crossed for your next test, let me know how it goes xx

@MintGreenLife
I haven't no, I started using opks back in February when I actually fell pregnant, I assumed opk's got me pregnant 😂
I just use cheapies from Amazon, so far I've been lucky and never missed my surge, but it does worry me for my next cycles to come because I know how easy it is to miss it.

Yeah I'm gonna try make more of an effort towards the romantic side rather than making it seem like it's just to try conceive.

Yeah I was kinda hoping this month I'd experience different symptoms to last time because it's just so easy to look for the symptoms I've already had. Ooh I can't remember I think it was 6/7dpo, was very early on, I tested and got bfn. I think I tested again on 9dpo and saw the faintest line, then again on 10dpo and got my positive. I must have implanted very very early.

I got another bfn, gonna just hold out now until the end of week when AF is due ☺️ prepare myself for another cycle of ttc xx

MintGreenLife · 03/06/2020 12:00

@Sho2207 sorry to hear about your BFN, but it sounds like you're being really positive ☺️ When is AF due?

I have no idea what's going on with me - my temps are still going down, and I skipped doing an OPK yesterday as thought I ovulated a few days ago, but because of the temps I thought I best double check and carry on with OPKs for now and I seem to be having another surge today! Not as high as last one so will do another this afternoon. OH is out all day and not back until late tonight, already mentioned to him DTD and he said it might be too late and maybe tomorrow instead, so frustrating!

@MintGreenLife
I think it's due around Friday/Saturday, last month I had a 31 day cycle due to the miscarriage, so I reckon it'll be a 29 day cycle this time.

Looking at your graph I think the first peak is probably the one to go for. I don't think I've ever heard of someone ovulating any later than CD20,
As long as dtd is still consistent, when's AF due?

MintGreenLife · 03/06/2020 12:20

AF is due on the 13th - so 10 days from now @Sho2207. I've read that your body can attempt to release the egg following the LH surge, and then try again a few days later if failed, so possibly what could have happened, although CD20 was late for ovulation anyway. I have spoken to a few people who after coming off the pill ended up with 60+ day cycles and finally got an LH surge towards the end, so I guess it can come any time, but my cycle was 30 days last time. I'll keep testing anyway just to be on the safe side ☺️

I guess you're not our untik AF arrives and still have a few days to go, will you keep testing do you think?

OP posts:
Sho2207 · 03/06/2020 12:26

@MintGreenLife
When did you come off the pill?
Wow I've never heard of that, I think my cycles just went back to normal after coming off the pill. But I wasn't ttc back then so maybe I just didn't notice anything.

I probably won't test anymore, I've had a few cramps this morning so I think AF is well and truly on the way. I get to the point of wanting AF to show up so I can get it out the way and get on with next cycle haha.
There's too much waiting and testing with ttc and I'm the most impatient person 😂
