Experiences with prenatal supplements, Seven Seas etc

Hi all ☺️

I'm reading 'The impatient woman's guide to getting pregnant' at the mo and I've just finished a chapter about supplements.

This will be our first month TTC and I've been taking folic acid and vitamin D for a while now. The book however says a prenatal supplement is a must. I researched them a while back and decided agaisnt them as some reviews say they messed around with their cycle, particularly pregnacare. After reading in the book that I should be taking one though, I ordered seven seas trying for a baby. They are arriving today but in torn as to whether I should take them or not.

Does anyone have experience with these? Particularly the seven seas supplement over pregnaccare. I came off the pill 6 weeks ago and got my withdrawal bleed a few days later, and AF exactly 30 days later, so hoping my periods will be quite regular already. Because of this I'm worried about taking anything that could mess up my cycle, but it also seems Seven Seas could really improve your chance of conception. Any advice? Xx

Hi,

Absolutely loved this book, but I did notice that the supplement the author says she prefers didn't include some of the minimum doses of certain vitamins she insists on! I lost a few hours of my life researching this and came to the conclusion that I'd end up on an incredibly complicated and expensive cocktail of individual vitamin supplements to meet those min requirements (when there's lots of research to suggest that your body can't actually absorb really high levels of certain vitamins), and that I could probably manage it myself with the Seven Seas ttc and a bit of conscious effort with my diet.

FWIW I've been taking Seven Seas for a few months and it hasn't had any negative impact on my cycle length. I haven't had a BFP yet but I also tried Pregnacare for a few months with no success, and didn't like that they are like horse pills and turn your urine neon yellow!

Sending baby dust ☺️

I was on seven seas and had to stop as it shortened my luteal phase, made me spot before AF and gave me extremely heavy periods, switched to folic acid and vitamin D and 6 weeks later was pregnant.

Hi @Gemster19

Thanks so much for your reply ☺️ The book is awesome isn't it. I'm about half way through and I've already found it so helpful. You're totally right though about her recommendations for supplements, I too was worrying how I was going to cover everything.

That's great you've found Seven Seas to be good so far - the reviews online are crazy positive and I did wonder if they were all genuine. Some people even say after years of TTC they then took those and fell quickly!

I started taking them yesterday. I don't know why but I'm quite anxious about doing the right thing to give us the best possible chance of conceiving. We were due to get married in September but that'll most likely be cancelled now due to the virus, and when we can rearrange to depends on when we get pregnant, so I guess I'm trying to time it the best I can and that's making me worry whether I'm doing the right thing or not. But I appreciate it's very tricky to plan around when I baby might arrive anyway!

Thanks for your reply @Maidmummy

Oh that's interesting that it made your luteal phase shorter. I read somewhere that it can help lengthen it and regulate hormones. I had my first AF after coming off the pill only around 7 days after when I thought I ovulated, which is obviously very short. I've looked into it and seems that this is quite normal when coming off the pill, so thought maybe Seven Seas could help with that if it is going to happen again this cycle, but obviously you found the opposite!

I was just taking folic acid and vit D before. It's so hard to know what the right thing to do is 🤔
