TTC following ectopic pregnancy

Hi everyone,

I'm just looking for some positive stories of those who have conceived following an ectopic pregnancy and to see if anyone out there is currently in the same boat as me.

At the end of January I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy and I had emergency surgery and my right tube removed. Heartbroken is an understatement.

Anyway, fast forward to now. We have been TTC since the ectopic and no luck yet.
We had only been very loosely TTC when we fell straight away in December/January so I'm finding it difficult to come to terms with the face it is taking longer than that! Oh and I am an impatient person!
I'm fully aware that we were so lucky to fall pregnancy so quickly last time.

TTC is taking over my mind and my thoughts constantly. When you have something and then it's taken away, you want it even more.

I'm just looking for some positive stories or anyone who is going through the same thing.

x

Hi OP so sorry to hear about your experience.
I had an eptopic in 2012, to be fair I didn’t know I was pregnant so there was no expectations to be shattered. However after they removed my tube a dr informed me that my tubes were a “mess” and that I would have trouble conceiving and she wouldn’t advise I leave it over the age of 30 to try and have children (I was 25 with zero desire for children). I literally scream cried right there in the hospital.

Anyway I put it out of my mind and when I wanted to have a baby at 30, I was fell pregnant first try. I’m now 33 pregnant with my second, again fell pregnant very quickly.

It’s scary for sure after an eptopic but it’s not always doom and gloom. Stay strong and best of luck x

Hi @memily. No advice I'm afraid but I'm in the same position. I had surgery and my left tube removed pretty much a year ago. We stopped, tried again in November which ended as a chemical (but at least proved I can still get pregnant) and have started trying again this month. I'm currently waiting until my period is due.

In my post surgery brief I was told fertility is reduced by approximately 20%, not 50 as your remaining tube can pick up from the other side also.

Hiya @OnlyFoolsnMothers,
I’m so sorry you went through it too.

Thanks so much for your positive story, it’s nice to hear. It definitely does feel scary and daunting, but it’s good to know there’s positivity out there.
Good luck with everything x

Hi @MikeEhrmantraut,

I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through it too, it’s rubbish isn’t it. I didn’t know about the 20% so thanks for that information.

Good luck for this month, the wait for the period or no period should I say, feels like forever doesn’t it!

Hi Op, my first pregnancy ended in a ruptured ectopic and I lost my left tube, I was completely heartbroken and pretty terrified, yet desperate to get pregnant again. We waited for 3mths before trying again as recommended and I was pregnant after 4 cycles resulting in my DS.
We recently decided to start trying for number 2, thinking it might take a while but I got my bfp this week first month trying. I'll be scared until I've had a scan to check it's not another.
I had lots of people reach out to me and give me positive stories which helped.
Good luck, I hope you get your bfp soon Xx

Hiya @Bobbino
Firstly massive congratulations on your positive test! Such lovely news. And I totally get your anxieties waiting for that scan.

Secondly, thank you for sharing your story with me It’s really nice to hear some positive outcomes. Naturally your mind is drawn to the negative ones and worrying ones, so thank you.

I’m keeping everything crossed! X

Hiya- not sure if it's a help but we have a similar thread that's a couple of months old on this- I can find the link if you like?
Either way I've had a successful pregnancy the month after my surgery and a chemical this time ttc. It's a shit old time but really is possible still as long as your other tube is ok. My surgeon said the tubes can actually float about so your chances are still possible each month (just a bit less on the surgical side)
Lucie and the bump on Instagram currently is pregnant with her missing side ovary so so current proof it can happen! And on none surgical side months it's the same chance as any other lady.... keep positive!

Hi OP, I'm in a similar position - had an ectopic treated with methotrexate in February so this is the first month we've been allowed to try again. Currently 1/2 dpo but not feeling hopeful for the first month. Different situation to yours as I was fortunate enough to not lose a tube - I've seen so many success stories though so fingers crossed for you 🤞

Sammyclaire22 · 10/05/2020 06:45

Hey @whambam89 how are you doing? We were on the same thread before Christmas x

whambam89 · 10/05/2020 14:26

@sammyclaire22 thought I recognised your handle! Not doing too badly, it took a really long time for my HCG levels to come down which wasn't ideal but thankfully managed to go without a 2nd injection. Glad that we can start trying again now! How are you getting on?

Sammyclaire22 · 11/05/2020 20:09

Glad you are able to look to the future now, so sorry you had to go through it.
I'm fine... no further on! I had a chemical end of Feb but at least it means I can conceive. I've started on the agnus castus lilice suggested along with the co enz lol. Hoping it helps somehow!

whambam89 · 12/05/2020 12:46

@sammyclaire22 I've been taking coenzyme q10 and vitamin B complex for a couple of months now and started with folic acid this month so fingers crossed that helps to get a BFP!

Sammyclaire22 · 17/05/2020 20:36

Just wanted to update- I got a positive at 9dpo this cycle. 11dpo today and it's clear enough to post without needing to squint! Hoping it's a sticky bean in the right place. Keep positive it can still happen x

@sammyclaire22 congratulations! So happy for you! I'm 9dpo today, had cramping at 7dpo and a bit of bloating as well as sore boobs since. I'm not going to test until AF is late I don't think. Keep me up to date, hoping you have a healthy pregnancy :) x

Sammyclaire22 · 25/05/2020 20:25

How are you doing @whambam89? Xx

memily · 25/05/2020 21:53

@Sammyclaire22 I’m so sorry I completely missed this post!
Massive congratulations to you! You must be over the moon. X

Haha don't worry... Yes I am, still not sunk in yet really but I'm hoping to have a scan next week so it might feel more real then! How are you getting on? X

memily · 26/05/2020 07:41

@Sammyclaire22 I can imagine! It’s nice when you get to see it on that screen, for real.
Yeah ok, started ovulation testing this month to see what’s what. I’m using clear blue, I’m CD15 I’ve had 8 day’s of high fertility (flashing smiley face), but I’m yet to reach the peak fertility solid smiley face. So I’m just waiting for that really. We’re trying every other day anyway, just in case I miss it or my levels aren’t high enough to detect. But I’m feeling a little impatient now lol!x
