Sperm test at home

HAs anyone used an at home sperm testing kit? I think I'll be hard pushed to get hubby to actually go somewhere to do it. We are in the tww for cycle 21 so if we haven't caught this month I was hoping to get some tests done. Obviously with lockdown that's tricky. I've had my ovaries checked for PCOS and I'm all ok. My thyroid is normal. I know I'm ovulating so not sure what else I could have tested. Any advice would be really welcomed

Yes, my husband used one before Christmas and it came out that his was really low. Like awfully low. He stressed about it for ages then when the fertility clinic tested he’s actually above average.

I would really advise against them after the stress it caused my husband x

@Thewait2020 thank you, that's interesting to know, I'll see about going through A proper clinic instead, last thing I want is his confidence bashed!

@hayho87 that’s exactly what happened with my husband, he thought it was all his fault etc and I kept trying to say we can’t trust the test.
He was bouncing off the walls once he found out he’s above average 😂

I looked into the home test in detail a while back because DH is terrified of hospitals. A regular lab test will look at motility, volume, concentration, shape (that the sperm only have 1 head and look 'normal', how many have 2 heads for example) and a few other parameters. The home tests (say boots one for £30) only give you a result of normal or low. He might get a 'high' because there are lots of sperm present, but if they all have 2 heads, or no head and otherwise abnormal, you wouldn't know.

The reviews are pretty poor too. I personally think they should be banned, because to diagnose any issues, he will need a proper test anyways, generally 2 separate ones a few weeks apart.

If you live near the clinic/hospital, he may be able to provide the sample at home, then take to the clinic asap. I'd recommend a proper test though and don't waste the £30.

@Elouera thank you for that info, I'll definitely look to see if there's a clinic near us instead
