Miscarried today (4.5 weeks pregnant)

Hi all. I have had a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy, (whatever you want to call it) today at 4 weeks and 3 days.

I had positive tests (from Friday last week until Monday this week). All was good, all usual pregnancy symptoms. (Tender breasts and nausea etc) Yesterday, i did another test and noticed the line was lighter.

Today, i woke up to thick brown discharge, followed by dark pink and then red bleeding, along with lots of cramping. I did another test, which had the faintest tiniest positive line. The doctor i rang said this sounds like a miscarriage, and to reconfirm next week with another test. She said 1 in 5 pregnancies have a miscarriage.

I am 33, 34 in August, generally fit and well.
This was our first pregnancy, and I am so sad from this outcome. I didnt think it would happen to me.

Does anyone have any insight as to how quickly their cycle/fertility comes back, as I am already super keen to start trying again!! And how long does it take to 'get rid' of what it is doing now?

Any advice!? Thanks xx

I'm sorry to hear this OP

As you really had just missed your period, there's no waiting time. You can carry on TTC as before. I'm not minimising that all losses can affect you, just to say that it's so early, it's a chemical pg rather than MC (I've had MC just to say). Hopefully things will go well next time.

Hi @EarringsandLipstick
Thanks for the message. Yeah i think you're right, its classified more as a chemical.

How many weeks was your MC? Im sorry. Have you tried since? X

Thanks

It'll just come pretty much as normal if you're usually regular. I had 4 'chemical pregnancies' before my dd. Early testing and super sensitive tests have a bit to answer for I'm afraid. Very common. It is disappointing though so you have my sympathy

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 19:23

@skinnyhotchoc wow, 4!? Oh god, im sorry. Silly question, but was there a known reason or just unknown for you!? Did it take long to get finally pregnant? X

No I did have a couple of investigations and nothing found. Started trying in the September and had 4 ( 1 each month) and got my bfp that was sticky in the February. I did take baby aspirin. Might have just been a coincidence though. Look at the positives. The fact you can get pregnant is encouraging

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 19:59

Baby asprin!? @skinnyhotchoc sorry, what does that do? Thank you xx

It's supposed to help baby implant and attach if you have a problem with your blood. Ladies with recurrent miscarriage are sometimes advised to take it

Kona84 · 06/05/2020 21:05

Sorry for your loss. I was told the same when I miscarried in January with my first pregnancy. The midwife said it happens with a lot of first time pregnancies and said it’s like my body is practicing. To be honest I wanted to punch her but I’m hopeful that my next one will be okay. Still trying at the moment.

I wish you and your partner all the best

I'm so sad for you, its tough! Unfortunately it also adds a whole new level of anxiety with TTC from now on; I miss that blissful unawareness I had with my first pregnancy that happened so easily and went without a hitch. Now 2 chemical pregnancies and a MC later I find it difficult to accept any BFP! On a positive note, I miscarried at 5+ weeks and tried straight away after. I didn't wait for another period, I just counted my MC as day one of the cycle. One thing I will suggest is tracking your ovulation because I bleed for longer than usual (10 days) and it took 3 weeks before I ovulated, so my whole cycle was out of whack. Luckily my ClearBlue Ovulation tests picked up my ovulation and I'm now pregnant again. Fingers crossed for you xxx

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 21:32

Thanks @kona84 fingers crossed for you too!
How many weeks were you in Jan? X

Thank you @Trying2b im sorry to hear about you too! Lets hope its positive this time round for you!
Did your doc or anyone suggest why it kept happening, or say it was normal? Xx

No need to wait op. You can try again this month. Next week?

Ullupullu · 06/05/2020 21:40

If you hadn't tested, you might never have known. Don't focus on recurrent miscarriage when this is literally your first time. Have sex once your period ends.

Trying2b · 06/05/2020 21:49

@MrsBlue1986 I didn't even tell the doctor / EPU, unfortunately it's so common I knew they wouldn't have any advice. I always test way too early, so I open myself up for the disappointment. If I had better will power then I would have waited until at least the day of my period, if not a few days after missed period. I read a funny little post that said Chemical Pregnancies happen when you're so fertile your body lets in any old riff raff sperm to fertilise your egg before your body realises its not good quality and the pregnancy ends as it naturally would (and normally you wouldnt even know). I found it reassuring to know I was getting pregnant and having sex at the right time. It was just a shame the pregnancy didn't stick. Apparently you're also extra fertile after miscarriage / CP, not sure why but a fair bit of research seems to back it up.

Have a good cry for a few days, feel sad about the plans you made which have now been lost and then have another go. This time in 4/5 weeks you could be pregnant again, that's the agony and joy of TTC, there's pretty much always another chance! Xxx

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 21:57

Thank you so much @Trying2b. Thats very comforting words and very nice of you to say!!

We sound quite similar in respect to testing. I started at 9dpo with my first positive, which today now im technically 18dpo so i had a good week of feeling amazing and oh so positive, to all of a sudden feeling the total opposite. The girls i spoke to in a previous forum all made friends and made a little facebook group (already!!! Sad, i know!), but its little things like that set me off again! ...watching and hearing their stories! 🙁zz

I was 8 weeks but the the foetal pole only measured 6weeks. It took me another 2 weeks to fully miscarry and pass the tissue.
I wanted to get right back to it but bled almost to my next period and didn’t really feel up to it to be honest.

Malysh · 06/05/2020 22:37

I had an early miscarriage at 6wk. Doctor suggested I wait one cycle before trying again. I didn't want to but followed his advice. However you're so very early that I think you may not need to wait at all.

For what it's worth I got lucky 2-3 months later and expecting baby in a few weeks. Chemicals/early MCs are indeed much more common than most people think, and you have very good odds of having a perfectly uneventful pregnancy as soon as you conceive again.

I did read some studies that suggest that couples who try to conceive within 6 months of a miscarriage have better luck than couples who wait.

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 22:51

Thank you @malysh that's a very positive story to keep me going! Congrats on your upcoming birth also!

Thanks ..thats good to know!!! Xx
