Advice about when to start TTC after miscarriage

Hi,
I am new here and looking for a little advice/reassurance. On the 2nd April I had a D&C after finding out the baby had stopped growing at 11+5 weeks. After the D&C I bled for about 2.5 weeks, had a follow up at the hospital and told all was fine. I have only today finally managed to get a negative test (almost six weeks since D&C)
So my question- the general advice is to wait for one cycle before TTC again. I am however keen to start sooner. Has anyone got any advice or experience they can share with me? I do not want to do anything that will put myself at risk of a 2nd miscarriage. However from reading around the subject, I can not find any real evidence to suggest waiting for 1 cycle apart from making dating the pregnancy easier. Thanks in advance!

Firsly im sorry for what you habe been through. Its the right time when its right for you but i do feel that you might need to give yourself time to heal mentally also your cycles may be a little off for a while . I think the advice is to give your body chance to heel
Good luck xxx

Hi @leaf87

So sorry to hear what your going through o myself am currently going through a misscarriage after finding out I had a missed miscarriage, hoping things will complete naturally but if not will take the medical route.

I also had a misscarriage last year in October and decided to ttc pretty much straight away, I will say that my cycles were a little off in the months after but I did conceive again in jan/feb even though it didn't end as hoped. So even though things havnt worked for me I still don't regret trying straight away.

From what I have read I think they mainly suggest waiting for your next cycle just to make dating easier.

So my main advice would be if you feel emotionally ready then go ahead! The most important thing is that you are ready.

And we are all here for support if you need it

X

Old gal here ! So sad to hear about your loss. Was 19 years ago for me. I will never forget but equally can remember how long ago as her younger sister is now 18.

My advice is to crack on straight away.

So sorry for your loss. I too had a miscarriage in December which was detected at the 12 week scan. Personally for me, we wanted to wait for my cycle to get back on track before conceiving (I had fallen pregnant after 1 cycle following the end of breastfeeding!) as something inside me told me my body needed it and have just started TTC this month but it’s definitely a personal thing so do what best suits you!! Sending you lots of baby dust. Xxx

I'm really sorry for your loss.
I suffered an ectopic in February and had to have surgery to remove my left tube. I was advised to wait 2 full cycles before trying to conceive again. That's what I've done and this is the first month (currently in my TWW)
I would advise to try when you feel ready, not just physically, but emotionally.
You will know when the time is right. Good luck xx

Thank you ladies for all you advice!
@Emsnewmum I am sorry your going through this especially in the current climate, if your anything like me all wanted was to have a hug from my mum! Or even for my husband to come to the hospital with me!
@Britannah and @Mo81 physically I feel fine again, and emotionally I am starting to feel more like myself. I am fairly pragmatic but keen to try again as I feel it will help me mentally. To some extent I feel like if I wait a cycle then we start trying, it becomes a very definite start date and that comes with it's own pressures! I feel that if we just relax and go with the flow then see what happens this may be better for my mental health.
@BMWL and @Britannah fingers crossed that you get good news soon!!
It's a very bumpy ride conception and pregnancey!! And knowone really tells you about it... I have found the whole thing very strange indeed. Most people didnt even know I was pregnant and I find myself wanting to tell them about it! There was a great article in the Telegraphy yesterday if you get chance give it read. Describe miscarriage as the perfect venn diagram of things that make people uncomfortable- sex, death and periods!

I’m so sorry. I had the exact same thing happen in January at 11 weeks. It’s devastating. I didn’t get a period until 10 weeks later, and called the midwives a few times to check as I was worried about it, and they said they only say to wait for one cycle before trying again as it’s easier to date a pregnancy and also to give yourself some time to heal. They said there’s no medical reason to wait until your first cycle and can start trying as soon as you stop bleeding.

Sorry for your loss. I’ve had a mc last month and the advice I received from both my epu and GP was to start trying as soon as I felt ready given that I had stopped bleeding/hcg levels gone and scan showed completed mc. They advised I don’t need to wait until af arrived and the only benefit of waiting is it’s easier to date

peperethecat · 06/05/2020 09:53

They generally advise you to wait until after your period for dating purposes. If you've got a negative pregnancy test now you could start using OPKs to try and pinpoint your next ovulation and then you'll know to test if you don't get your period two weeks after that.

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 12:36

@peonyrose87 @2020wish @peperethecat thank you that's very reassuring to hear. Physically I feel great and mentally I am getting there. When I went for my check up they said 'oh you could wait six months' I quizzed them as to why was there any scientific fact behind the statement there response was 'no but we do have Covid-19 so you could wait for it to pass' there point is valid but I do not want to wait that long. I think we will just carry on and see what happens I dont want to become to obsessive and feel that I can just use this time to relax. If AF arrives in 4 weeks then so be it for now!
I hope your all doing ok in isolation its tough be kind to yourselves

@leaf87 I’m glad you’re doing ok! I was advised I’d probably want to wait because of covid, because there’s so much they’re unsure of, but they also said if you want to try then that’s ok too. I’m trying to not get too hung up on it too.
