Metformin PCOS experiences needed

Started Metformin today. Taking 500mg then think I up it to 1000mg after a week, then 1500mg after another week if coping ok.
Have PCOS.
Has anyone used Metformin and got pregnant after TTC with no success? Or used it and it had no affect?

I would be very interested to hear any stories, I have recently started Metformin, I am now on 1000mg a day Smile

Can I ask @Belalice how long it took for you to feel comfortable with no side affects on 1000mg?

To be honest, I haven't really had many side effects. I think maybe going up to 1500mg might change that though! How ate you finding it?

I have PCOS and struggled to get pregnant due to incredibly irregular periods. Prescribed metformin after having DC for PCOS and now have regular periods for the first time in my life. Fingers crossed metformin works for you.

I was diagnosed pcos in my 20s then Type 2 diabetes in my 30s and put on metformin. Conceived DD naturally just after I turned 40 after about 7/8 months ttc.
On side effects I found it took about 2 weeks for upset stomach to settle after starting/upping dosage .

Hi ladies. I was diagnosed with PCOS last summer after 2.5 years of no periods at all, weight gain and an ultrasound. I tried metformin for about 6-8 weeks (I know not a long time - it was between GP diagnosis and waiting on fertility clinic appointment).
To be honest, I didn’t see any difference but I didn’t take it for long, so wouldn’t expect to. I saw the fertility specialist in late August for the first time, prescribed Clomid in October and conceived that month. I think it very much depends on how the PCOS affects you! It looks like I just didn’t ovulate, and when that made that happen, I was very fortunate to fall straight away.
From what I have read though metformin seems to make a huge difference for a lot of women!! Also, the fertility nurse recommended myo-inositol to me - it isn’t available on prescription here yet but I was able to buy a big tub of the powdered form on Amazon, and add a spoon to water or juice. I think it made a difference more than the metformin personally and would absolutely recommend it (it wasn’t overly expensive).
It can be so different for everyone, I suppose it will be trial and error until you find something that works for your body! i hope you get some good news soon, I honestly know how deflating it can be. We had years of not knowing, and when I got my diagnosis the GP (who initially told me I had gone through early menopause) started prepping me for IVF.. I was distraught and preparing for a long struggle but it happened the first month of the right treatment - and it will happen for you too! 😊

Thanks @amysara24

I'm on myo-inositol and will see how Metformin goes for a few months, if not, I've heard great things about clomid.

Is it 'easy' to get or did you have to have scans/tests etc?

@2007Millie fingers crossed you see a difference 🤞🏽
So we had a referral from the GP to the fertility clinic. I had scans & bloods at various times of the month and DH had to have a sperm analysis before they would do anything. The blood tests showed I wasn’t ovulating and they prescribed Clomid the same day DH’s results came back. I think they need to eliminate the possibility of sperm issues too before they treat. I’ve heard some people struggle to get a prescription for it, so it possibly varies regionally too!
