Am I pregnant?

Hi guys.

I have felt nauseous today, so I've taken a pregnancy test. Definitely positive with 2 strong lines. However, I had what I thought was my period April 20th, so surely I can't be? I bled rather heavily too. Could this be residual hcg from a potential chemical pregnancy I was unaware of?

When was your period before the bleeding on 20th April? Some people get heavy implantation bleeding. And some people still get their period despite being pregnant don't they?

No

My period started April 20th (or what I thought to be my period)

Might be worth a doctors appointment and explain you thought you had your period. They normally send you for blood tests to confirm pregnancy

Best of luck!!

Personally I'd wait a week or 2 and test again.

Agree with above, contact your GP for bloods to confirm viable pregnancy

After having my first, around 4 months later, we decided I'd go back on the pill for a bit before trying for number 2. My period started, as expected, on time and I started my pill. 28 days later, my period didn't arrive. Well, I was pregnant. Whatever I thought was my period obviously hadn't been that so if you've had a strong positive test, it is very possible you are pregnant. Definitely test again and if you can, get bloods done.

No*

Of course they do. Some women get periods throughout their pregnancies. I'm not saying it's common but it happens.

They really don't. Do you know what a period is?

NannyPear · 30/04/2020 11:22

PatricksRum yes you are right. Women can't have periods where they shed their uterine lining +/- ovulate every month when pregnant. In my pp I was referring to the women who claim they didn't realise they were pregnant for months because they had regular bleeding throughout, and should definitely have clarified that. Perhaps it's more of an urban myth, but it's certainly not an unheard of thing.

Why don't you expand your replies a bit more? It would be more helpful.

PatricksRum · 30/04/2020 11:36

@NannyPear Yep urban myth, old wives tale.
I think it's important to know it's not normal to bleed during pregnancy but it can be normal for some women.
Certainly not a period, but can be due to other things.
