Hey. Mid 30's. Married. Have Pcos. Sadly can't get pregnant. Been and done all the scans and HSG's. Never took the pill. We realllyyyyy want our own babies but the next step seems only IVF and hormone injections. We can't afford it and it sounds like a long and painful process. Any one in a similar boat ?

Do you know if you ovulate?

franjanu18 · 28/04/2020 10:35

I went for some tracking. My left side is blocked but the right side may ovulate a few times during the year. I get my period monthly. But they can't figure out. Over 2 years trying.

Personally I would start temping to see if you ovulate. There's an amazing book called "taking charge of your fertility" by Toni Weschler. I don't have PCOS but incredibly long and irregular cycles. My sister who is also a midwife has PCOS and she recommended Agnus castus, which helped her to fall pregnant. I have also taken it to fall pregnant (helped get my cycles to 32-34 days) and recommended it to friends, one of them actually has to cancel her IVF because she fell pregnant after taking it. Maybe that's something to look into?

Didn't want to read and run... I know 2 women who have PCOS and we're told there were no chances of conceiving naturally. One had IVF and had a little boy (not sure where you are but this was free on the NHS in the UK, she was 33) and the other lady went on to her a baby naturally after she decided to 'give up' trying. There are loads of PCOS support groups on here and plenty of women who manage to conceive against all the odds. It's also possible to conceive with just one tube. Don't give up hope and good luck xx

I agree with @NoCallerID about the temping.

Temping will be a much easier way to see when you are ovulating. If you are ovulating and you manage to have sex at the right time then you have as good a chance as anybody of getting pregnant. Even if you could afford IVF everything is on pause right now due to coronavirus and so you might as well take matters into your own hands. Order a special BBT thermometer and the Toni Weschler book from Amazon, download the Fertility Friend app and start tracking. I recommend temping vaginally if possible because your temperatures are likely to be more consistent (no issues with mouth breathing during the night etc).

OP - have you looked into Clomid? My PCOS was so bad I didn't ovulate ever or get regular periods, but a combination of metformin, clomid and ovatrelle ovulation stimulation injections worked. (Am now cuddling 8 week old DS.)
