Im feeling a bit fed up and in need of some friendly advice please.

My last depo injection was in July 2019 and me and my partner have been actively trying for a baby since my injection 'ran out' in October 2019. It's now been 6 months and still no luck.

I started getting my period again at the beginning on March this year and have been using Clear Blue ovulation tests to track when I'm ovulating. I've had two fairly regular cycles and got positive ovulation readings on both. We've been actively trying when we get these readings... yet still no luck :(

I'm starting to think we're doing something wrong. Maybe we're not trying enough? I'm 27, he's 33 and we're both have a healthy weight / life style.

How often should we be trying and how long did it take anyone else to get pregnant? Any guidance or advice would be so appreciated.

Honestly the percentage of people who fall pregnant first time is so small.
It took me 3 months the first time, then miscarried at 3 months. Then 3 months later got pregnant again and currently 33 weeks pregnant.
The first time I was a lunatic with peeing on sticks and tracking apps. The second time I just enjoyed sex with my husband every other day!

Even without depo the vast majority of people will not fall pregnant in the first 6 months of trying.

You’re doing nothing wrong - anything within the first 12 months is completely within the realm of normal.

I came off the the depo a year ago. And still not luck. Really regretting on using the depo

  • Conception and sex To boost your chances of conceiving, aim to have regular sex throughout your cycle so you know that there should hopefully be good-quality sperm waiting for the time that the egg is released. An active sex life is all most people need to conceive. If you are quite sure when you ovulate each month you can give yourself the best chance of getting pregnant by having sex in the days leading up to ovulation. Continue having sex during ovulation. After this your fertile time will be over for that cycle.*

Sorry, bold fail

Most couples conceive within a year. Are you taking folic acid?

Mum4MrA2 · 26/04/2020 22:20

PS. If your periods only started again in March, then you may have only been fertile for the last 2 months. It can easily take an extra 6 months after your depot “ran out” for ovulation to restart. How long were you on it? Were you regular before depot?

You are young and fit so it’s most likely you will conceive this year. The Tommy’s website has useful information on conception, pregnancy etc. Good luck!

I was on the depo for years. It ran out in the Sept before I was due to get married in May. My period took 9 months to fully return. I was really paranoid about being pregnant for the wedding. No such luck! It took 2.5 years for me to conceive, and we had started fertility investigations.

I had relative short cycles, but even so the month I conceived we had dtd twice, on days 6 and 8.

I honestly think.that if you have been on it a long time, it's takes your body ages to get back to normal.

The positive here is that it DID happen naturally. Also, I got pregnant with dc2 after having sex once, while on the mini pill, breastfeeding. When dc1 was 9 months old. GrinShock

Hi,
Hope you're okay! It can feel so deflating each month AF arrives when you're TTC. I was on depo and it took us exactly year from when my injection ran out (Feb last year) for us to fall pregnant... We fell pregnant end of Feb this year! My periods came back pretty quick but doctor explained that the depo can have a lag effect so although you can get your periods back you can still have some of the depo still in your system. I was ready to give up but it is possible! Try got to lose hope x

Chanel05 · 26/04/2020 22:47

As a PP said, you may have only been ovulating for a few months if your periods have only just returned. If not, it's really very normal to take up to 12 months to conceive and the majority of people don't conceive within 6 months. I fell pregnant after 8 months of trying. Sadly I had a mmc and it took another 8 month for me to conceive.

From what I've read, there's only a 20% chance of conceiving on any given cycle even if you dtd at the most perfect time and have plenty of sex during your fertile window!

OP - I just wondered whether you have had any luck since this post? I am 5 months post depo running out and looking for some advice :) xx

HereToLetOffBurdens · 28/08/2020 13:39

I’m sorry to say it doesn’t happen that soon - very rarely. Took me a year and a half

Paloma11 · 23/11/2020 13:42

@Barki12 - Hello! Sorry it took me so long to response.
Believe if not, I was actually pregnant when I wrote this post(approx 4 weeks) and had absolutely no idea.

I had my period in April so didn't think I was pregnant but in May when I missed it and went for a private scan it turns out I was 7 weeks pregnant.
Apparently some women carry on getting periods in first couple of months of pregnancy.

I know this probably isn't very helpful for you but it does go to show how quickly things can change for one day to the next. Its also confirmed I will probably never go on the depo again because it messed up my cycle so much!

Best of luck to you xx

Congratulations that's amazing.
I'm still trying but won't give up all the best xxx

Oohlalalalala · 10/12/2020 06:43

That’s amazing, congratulations!

I literally had to check your post to see if I had wrote it. I also had my last depo injection in I think July 2019 and have had about three regular periods so far. This month I used opks for the first time and got a peak so am hopeful that my fertility is back.

Hello,

Just looking to talk to people in the same position really! I’ve been trying to conceive for 9 months I’ve had 4 regular periods around 28 day cycles no clear sign of ovulation for me yet. Taking folic acid and going to try the ovulation sticks this month is there any other advice?
