Has anybody tried the shettles method & actually worked? I have a 5 year old boy & my partner only wants one more so we would love a girl so one of each (although if we did have a another boy would be over the moon too) just looking to see if anybody has tried it & for some advice ☺

Aparently its been completely debunked. The sperm decides the sex and timing makes no difference to which sperm reaches the egg first. Its just a case of blind luck. Good luck ttc.

Oh really? I've had a read of it online but that's as far as I got, so wanted to know if anybody had tried it! This is first month TTC after an ectopic pregnancy & to be honest I'm more desperate to just conceive a healthy baby then focus on just a girl (although a girl would be lovely & my little boy continuously asks for a little sister) my family seems to be all boys through generations lol. Was intrigued reading about it though but I'm pretty sceptical I think u get what is meant to be!

We did for a boy. I cut down dairy, ate the right foods and tracked ovulation. He was indeed a boy.

They say dairy and timing sex 4/5 day’s prior to ovulation helps conceive a girl. Coincidentally, I was very much into dairy when we ttc the girls (we have 3).

It may be all unscientific nonsense, but certainly no harm trying it! Grin

Geepipe · 19/04/2020 02:57

Its deffo unscientific nonsense. Sex is determined by the sperm so a woman can eat what she likes it wont make a difference.

Also i found out that men can be predispositioned to have more sperm of XX or XY genetically based on their genes. So if i ever have a child with dp (currently having a chemical) its highly likely to be a boy. (dp is one of 9 boys has a son all his brothers only have sons etc)

Oh wow that's amazing! Thanks for your reply. I had never heard anything about it until recently was so intrigued but also I dont really tend to believe things like that (or much I read online for that matter lol) so was wanting to find out others experiences with it. We are definitely gonna give it a try, like u say theres no harm in it & eager to find out if it actually works! But dont get me wrong I'm happy either way & as long as baby healthy, same as anybody would be ☺

To be honest I think most things are a lot of rubbish online & u can read one thing yet read another 'scientific opinion' on it & that's the complete opposite. Take what your saying for instance about having boys, I have also read a lot of different stories on that being a lot of rubbish yet some so determined its true! It's like everything...take it with a pinch of salt! & everybody has different opinions on everything in life

Hey it could be rubbish but it doesn't hurt to try right? My boss used it for both her kids and swears by it - she got her boy and then a girl as planned. Another colleague of mine has 2 daughters and swears by it too - both were conceived 4-5 days before ovulation.

DreamingofSunshine · 19/04/2020 08:42

It's scientific nonsense I'm afraid. Only way to guarantee XX or XY is gender selection IVF which I believe you can't have in the UK unless you have a family history of a significant genetic illness affecting male/females. You can get it in the USA I believe.

Yelllow · 19/04/2020 09:00

My grandma swears that the secret to having a girl is for the woman to be on top! After 2 boys it worked for me lol. Very unscientific.

SmileyT · 19/04/2020 10:48

I had a look into this aswell, I think it officially has a 75% rate of success but I'm not sure what the rate of success is when people guess the gender anyway. Its like picking red or black in a casino because a person takes a sip of a drink before betting and then wins twice in a row it doesn't guarantee it'll work for you. If it makes the ttc journey more fun for people then no harm in trying as long as they aren't too dissapointed if it doesn't work out, I'm just DTD as much as possible because I'm impatient 😂. Good luck with TTC x

MrsJoshNavidi · 19/04/2020 10:58

I think people are predispositioned to have a girl of boy too.

I have girls. I have a sister. All of my cousins are girls and have had girls. My mother only had sisters. DF was obviously a boy though.

Apart from the husbands, there are no boys in my family.

KRK05 · 19/04/2020 12:58

Thanks ladies for all your replies. Well I think the conclusion is it's just one of those things & as for the 75% success rate I did think well that's just a coincidence haha. I love the reference to the black & white chips that's a great one & spot on 😂 I was just so curious. We read so much stuff online to do with TTC u come across some crazy stuff 🤦🏼‍♀️ this is my first month TTC anyway & I'm not tracking ovulation, only with my app which I know isnt 100% accurate so just DTD every 2-3 days & hope for the best. Good luck to everyone who's TTC 🤞🏻👶
