Low progesterone and conception

Hi, I have recently been for blood tests to see why we aren't having any success in conceiving and my bloods have shown I have low progesterone.
I had a call with the Dr, I expected him to prescribe me something he didn't and said I need to be referred to the fertility specialist. (which is going nowhere due to Covid19)
Anyway, he pretty much said I wont conceive with my levels.
ive been having regular periods with 24/25 day cycles since September, im now on day 28 and no period. Should I bother testing or is my body just taking the ? I never normally test because I think its a waste of time until I miss a period. This is the first time this has happened.
Has anyone else had low progesterone but still conceived? Should I test?

Forgot to add, ive been having pain/a tight feeling in my lower right pelvic area everyday for 2 weeks now. Its like ive pulled a muscle inside. I honestly thought I was pregnant until the Dr said I couldn't conceive naturally.

You’re technically late for you, I’d go ahead and test! Good luck x

What is your progesterone level?

I'm sure people have conceived with low progesterone so test away, but I had it and definitely could not conceive as I was.

I was referred and in the meantime took loads of vitamin B6, which aids the formation of progesterone in the body. I got pregnant whilst waiting for the fertility appt.

So you could try that in the meantime if the test is negative.

No harm in testing @Squeezy212! There are instances of women conceiving naturally despite low levels - I'd take one to put your mind at rest, at least then you won't be wondering...

Keep us updated, good luck!

Thanks everyone, I haven't taken a test yet but I still have a 'heavy' feeling in my pelvis. I was going to do one this afternoon but decided to wait till morning. I will definitely try to get some vitamin b6 though if I'm not pregnant.

Hi @Squeezy212 I have low progesterone and still have periods - even when I don’t ovulate. They are just a lot heavier when I do.
I don’t know about conceiving but I have two children. No more have arrived despite not taking any precautions at all. I had them in mid 20s and I’m not in early 40s
My advice would be to learn the sympto thermal method of tracking your cycles. It’s not too difficult. It will tell you how often you are actually ovulating and is evidence to show your fertility doctors
Also there at progesterone supplements you can take. But maybe they need to be prescribed.
Another avenue might be to contact Dr Maryon Stewart. She may be able to help you. She helped me with my PMT and advocates dietary changes, supplements and exercise. She is amazing.
Last but not least be aware that possibly after a baby is born you may be more at risk of PND. Low progesterone can also mean low mood and the two are tie. Happy to discuss more over direct message if you like Smile

Sorry, forgot 2 add my progesterone level. First test was 19 and second test on next cycle was 27. This was taken last friday

I think mine was 12, so the B6 did a really good job.

In fairness I really felt it. I was sooooo premenstrual! Boobs like cannon balls and really bloated and UGH. So I knew it was doing something. I got pregnant that first month!

I also took magnesium to reduce oestragen (I was reading a LOT about the hormonal cycle of oestragen and progesterone and one taking over from the other etc. and was bloody determined to get my ovulation) but I haven't a clue if it did anything.

Squeezy212 · 08/04/2020 17:29

Yeah I've read that too about oestrogen but apparently that was 'normal'. With everything that's happening at the moment I can't do anything and its frustrating because I need more tests/more answers. I'm ending up reading about it online and now I'm worrying I'm going through an early menopause 😭

My progesterone level was low (12) in the month I had blood tests done after TTC for 14 months. That was the month I got my BFP so it's definitely possible.

Squeezy212 · 08/04/2020 21:50

Wave street- wow that is promising, well done. Can I ask, did the pregnancy go to full term?
And thankyou for your help 😊

@squeezy212, will let you know! Only 11 weeks so far so keeping everything crossed 🤞 had an early scan at 8w and saw the heartbeat so that's promising. Wishing you lots of luck 💐

Aluasen · 08/04/2020 22:43

@Squeezy212 I'd definitely test in the morning! Good luck!

Squeezy212 · 09/04/2020 04:26

So.....I tested

Hoorah!! Congratulations @Squeezy212, so pleased for you!

Can't wait to hear the doctors reaction after telling you that it was so unlikely with your levels!

And a Christmas baby! I'm biased but December birthdays are the best Grin

Squeezy212 · 09/04/2020 09:09

Thankyou! That's a good point, when to I ring the Dr?
Also, december baby yay! I'm so happy with that
