Remove coil yourself?

Has anyone tried to remove their own coil?

Yeah, my OH and I got drunk and decided to start ttc. He just pulled it out. It hurt fora second and then I had a few cramps and a light bleed.

Obviously, it goes without saying I don't recommend this...

nlm82 · 02/04/2020 20:39

Was it that easy?

Please don't- you could rupture your uterus

SelfIsolationMeansMorePeppa · 02/04/2020 20:41

Oh no I couldn't bring myself to do that. No chance Shock

putputput · 02/04/2020 21:04

Do NOT do this

peachypetite · 02/04/2020 21:15

Fucking HELL!

RNBrie · 02/04/2020 21:23

I've done it... no pain, no different from taking out a tampon. I have had three kids though. I was due to have mine out because of heavy periods and ongoing anaemia. My appt was cancelled twice for various reasons and then coronavirus happened so I just took it out myself. Was during my period. That hardest part is getting a decent grip on the wires.

Scarletoharaseyebrows · 02/04/2020 21:23

No!

DuchenneParent · 02/04/2020 21:27

I am crossing my legs reading this thread! Grin

CupoTeap · 02/04/2020 21:33

Why would you risk hurting yourself?

lyingwanker · 02/04/2020 21:33

I took mine out after having it in for around 3 months and almost constant period type pains. I took it out whilst in the bath and on my period. It was really easy and painless for me.

Butterbeeeen · 02/04/2020 21:41

I didn’t take mine out myself but the nurse literally pulled a tiny bit on the strings and it came straight out with mine. Could easily have done that myself.

swapsicles · 02/04/2020 21:45

Yep, easier than I thought, given the fact the pain was unbearable putting it in and very uncomfortable for two months before I decided I just wanted it out but couldn't get an appointment.
Not recommended especially if it's been in a while as they can become embedded.

Sunshinespacecadet · 02/04/2020 21:46

I’m a nurse and I did it very gently pulling of the strings while I was in the bath. There was no resistance (otherwise I wouldn’t have continued) and it came out easily with no pain. However, it’s obviously a risk

Beau20 · 03/04/2020 20:22

It depends what type of coil you have... the 'T' style on absolutely would not try pulling it out. The string with copper bead on (although think these are the older ones?) go for it! I had the one with the beads on and mine actually fell out. I have no idea how they expected that to even stay in anyway...

Either way, I'd try and avoid. If you are wanting kids I'd certainly not risk causing any damage

Holothane · 03/04/2020 20:28

Dear god, mine will have to removed under anaesthesia the thought of doing this myself, ouch.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 03/04/2020 20:31

My fanny clenched up reading that!

MimsyBorogroves · 03/04/2020 20:36

I was really tempted to do mine as I was 18 months overdue for it being removed. I'd been sterilised but they forgot to take it out whilst I was sedated. Got as far as trying to get DH to help, but he could never grip the strings properly.

When it was taken out I was so glad I didn't do it at home as it turned out it was slightly embedded. Incredibly painful.

Whyhaveidonethis · 03/04/2020 20:55

Mine was a T shaped mirena. It was fine. They are designed to be pulled out
