Anyone used ovulation tests alongside Natural Cycles? Or similar app?

At this current time, me and DH are not wanting a child. It wouldn’t be the worst in the world - if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic.

I would like to come off the pill and get to know my body naturally, we would ideally start TTC in December. 2 friends of mine have tried ‘Natural Cycles’, 1 fell pregnant and the other still uses it alongside using ovulation tests.

My (now pregnant) friend fell pregnant due to the app giving her a ‘green’ day which wasn’t green but said she’d probably use ovulation tests alongside it when she’s had her baby as a back up, and we both believe that’s why our other friend uses it successfully.

She establishes her usual ovulation days by using the tests so if the app gives her a ‘green’ day she’ll know it’s still red etc.

However, I am still paranoid about falling pregnant while doing this as now is the least ideal time for me to fall pregnant. We we’re due to move into our new build home around May, due to the pandemic it’s looking more likely it’ll be delayed a few months. And we’d like to make it our own. Hubby has also just started a new job and is in the probation stage, I’d like him out of probation and have enough service at his company to be able to get good paternity benefits when the time comes.

So, as you can tell we’d really like to not fall pregnant now but I would like to try and naturally manage my cycles and not be on the pill.

Has anyone ever tried this method? A fertility awareness app alongside ovulation tests? I am aware of the extra expense by purchasing ovulation tests but if a few people can vouch for this method then I would be happy to cover the expense Smile

Hello! I would say that the app is pretty accurate if used correctly.. it takes a good few months to get your specific data, but then it works a treat! (I also believe it is as good as a pill method and is endorsed by the nhs as a method of contraception). I used opks alongside whilst I was trying to get pregnant and it was pretty accurate by a few days. I think using opks alongside this would be too late in preventing a pregnancy? If you.have sex the day before the opk is positive theres a pretty strong chance you may get pregnant. I found the app great and still use it, but you will need to use some form of protection until it learns your cycles xx

Clear blue ovulation sticks were spot on unlike my app. Do not rely on the app.
