Hi all,

I'm so excited to start our TTC journey. It really feels we've waited for so long for this time to come. I have been ready for years, the feeling of broodiness is actually overwhelming at times. And now the time is almost here! I have just 7 more pills to take before we can start and couldn't get more excited. Although I am a little worried I have some break through bleeding currently (not uncommon for me) so I have wondered if that may be a problem..

How long after stopping the pill did it take you to conceive? I have terrible anxiety about this (my breakthrough bleeding being a factor in this)..
I am 27 and have been on contraception for 9 years, currently on the combined pill.

Smile

Thanks for the feedback @LittleBoyJuly that was useful to hear from someone first hand who's experiencing it.

Whilst these times are so scary and unknown, I hear all what you are saying. We have decided to continue to come off the pill as planned, due to the fact that I have been on contraception for so long. We will use other methods of contraception for the time being, but I really want time to be pill free to get this out of my system. Hopefully this calms down by the time my body is ready to conceive and it all works out (there's wishful thinking!).

I'm lucky enough that my job is safe during this time and I'm getting paid so that was never an issue for us. But I agree, there were wartime babies and babies born during all devastations and people coped because that's just what we do. However, a couple of months allowing my body to readjust while using other methods seems sensible for us.

Thanks all for your input.

@PlomBear I think you have really missed the point. People are saying to wait because 1) we don't have enough information about the effect of the virus on a foetus and 2) this is not the time to be needing medical appointments unless absolutely necessary. Your examples are not really applicable to the current situation at all.

@Leasha16 I didn't want to put you off in any way, but it's just such a stressful time and stress is no good for mum or baby.

I would hate to have been going through all this during the first trimester with the sickness and feeling awful on top of the stress x

Seventyone72seventy3 - a virus or bacterium pandemic could start at any time. Next year? Two years?

I don’t think telling people not to get pregnant is helpful. What next, have an abortion? Are abortion services still running I wonder.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/03/2020 21:13

@PlomBear Seriously? You can't plan for something you don't know about in the future. You absolutely can and should plan for something which is happening right at this very moment.

Just look at what is happening around you within your local NHS services. Read the Health Service Journal online (free to access Covid related content is free to access during the crisis) to see what's really going on.

Just foolish and actually incredibly selfish to deliberately embark on TTC when you have no idea what the healthcare services available to support you during pregnancy and birth will be like in a few weeks/months time.

Shakes head.

And have a read of this, fancy giving birth alone?

@Leasha16 I came off the pill last December and started trying/tracking ovulation In February and fell pregnant that month. I had been on the pill for 10 years. I’m 5 weeks today. Smile

@ChequerBoard I totally understand your point, nobody should really be putting any pressure on the NHS if they can help it. However, I imagine that if it comes around to 9 months later, there may be a much bigger push for home births or birthing centres where possible - as much as we can try to put life on hold, for some, the dream/desire of having a child can't just be paused. Just a thought, though I do see your point very clearly!
