Not TTC now, due to COVID-19 and the fact I’m still a few months away from being eligible for maternity pay in work!

However, I am extremely worried we’ll take a while TTC it’s a fear of mine.

I’m 22, no underlying health conditions and before starting the pill, my periods were regular.

We want to start TTC end of September (we’ be been living together over a year, both financially stable with stable careers) but I wondered if I should come off the pill around May? In case it takes a while to get pregnant and I would rather know sooner?

Apologies for the rambling I am just really worried about TTC and not being able to! We’re both really broody and want to wait but I would rather come off the pill to see if my body takes time to adjust?

Advice please MN’ers?

I came off my pill 13 months ago, I'm 24 with reg periods same as you and still no BFP :(

Get married first. An old fashioned view I know but it’s security and you’re much more likely to be the one who’s career takes a hit. Ensure you’re truly committed to each other, legally, before bringing another person into the mix. If he won’t marry you he’s telling you he’s not that committed. You’re also young and there’s no reason to think you’ll have a problem, though I certainly don’t think you’re too young if you feel ready. But be properly committed first.

@BuffaloCauliflower we are actually engaged with the intention of being married by the end of this year! Got engaged January, however with what’s going on we’re waiting as even though we want something small we don’t want to book a venue and get our hopes up for it to be cancelled.

A few people have reassured me that because of my age and no reported health conditions etc, that I should be fine

I was just wondering if my body will take months to adjust being off the pill?

In that case I’d come off the pill the month you’re getting married. Everyone’s different when they come off the pill, some people it’s normal straight away, others it takes time. I had Mirena before TTC and had it out about a year before we got married and started using Natural Cycles, was enough contraception for us and it also got really used to my cycles which made it much easier to conceive when the time came. Might be an option

I think coming off it in the summer sounds sensible - you can use condoms and start tracking your cycle etc. Can take a few months after coming off the pill to get a regular cycle going again. Start taking folic acid as soon as you come off it too Smile

Please don't bring any more kids into this horrible world

bluebell94 · 22/03/2020 16:23

I'm 25 with no underlying health issues that I'm aware of. Came off microgynon in September and took 6 months to conceive, my cycles were so long and irregular when I came off it. But everyone is different, it happens straight away for some people 🤷🏼‍♀️ x

WannabeMom97 · 22/03/2020 16:25

@BuffaloCauliflower cycle tracking sounds like a great idea. I’d like to get to know my body and cycles more as obviously being on the pill it is a withdrawal bleed not really a period.

Is Natural Cycles worth it? I’ve read it’s a one off payment so just wanted to check if it’s good!

Of course being pregnant while married and after I meet criteria for maternity pay in my job would be the most ideal situation for us, however I would like my body to have time off the pill!

@sunfloweryy I am now really considering cycle tracking!

A friend of mine I know does it and says she’s now confident enough to (TMI) not use condoms or pull out method

She did use clear blue ovulation tests first to establish her ovulation days, which I might do also

Thank you for the advice

I got pregnant the first month I stopped my contraception so be very careful OP, it can happen!

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/03/2020 16:29

I love Natural Cycles, big fan. It really gets to know your cycle but also tells you what’s what, instead of other cycle trackers you have to decipher. It’s based on proper science and if you use it properly it works really well.

WannabeMom97 · 22/03/2020 16:31

@BuffaloCauliflower think I’m pretty much 100% convinced on this app now!

Going to talk to my fiancé because we’ll obviously have to be extremely cautious at first while I’m still getting to know my cycle etc but thank you for this tip!

Thank you for your tips everyone! Think Natural Cycles is a good option as I get to adjust to being off the pill and then when the time comes I’ll know my body better

Everyone is different but personally i’d come off it sooner rather than later. I stopped mine last April and my periods are still all over the place.
But as previous posters have said, for some people it’s alot quicker x
