In the space of a week I have;

  1. Started a new wonderful job in a high risk mental health care facility
  2. Read that pregnant women should isolate
  3. Found out that I'm three weeks pregnant

I really, really don't want to isolate as we cannot afford it at all and I don't think I'm entitled to help as I've literally been with the company since monday.

Any ideas on what to do?

Wow! A crazy week and congratulations on the job and pregnancy. Is it possible for you to have a less hands on role? Office work or something like that?

mumworkstudywine · 20/03/2020 22:37

Thank you! So I specifically work nights, which isn't a problem and my position is mostly office based with 1-2-1 a few times a night but if there is an incident, which is very likely, I am the first responder. I come in contact with maybe 5 out of 15 clients due to working nights so my theory is that as it stands, I may be okay to continue as is until the point where I feel that I can't cope or someone for example is diagnosed with coronavirus (please no). I really just don't want to lose my job or endanger this very much longed for baby!

@mumworkstudywine massive congratulations on your BFP that’s wonderful. On the job front absolutely self isolate. Your employer can’t penalise you for that as part of the governments bid to contain Covid-19. I agree with @hellosun20 see what work you can do from home or commit to CPD type work maybe.

BewilderedBee · 21/03/2020 00:28

Congrats on the BFP. My friend recently contacted her midwife about this. She said the government advised pregnant women to self isolate for 12 weeks like other vulnerable people. However, this was reviewed and the advice now is to just take the precautions that are advised. Perhaps call your local midwives for advice to be sure?

CoalCraft · 21/03/2020 07:32

Hi, as @BewilderedBee said I think the advice for pregnant women has been revised and it's now just asked that they follow the general precautions laid out for everyone else extra carefully. Thankfully, coronavirus doesn't seem to have any particularly harmful effects on pregnant women over any one else.

But yes, best chat to a midwife.

Congrats on the bfp and the job!! an exciting time for you, if only corona would piss off hey?

Thank you everyone for your advice! I will ring my midwife Monday and see what she says. Thanks again!
