Not getting pregnant after Mirena coil

I had the Mirena removed in October after two years of use. We've been TTC since then but I've had absolutely no luck. I don't believe I'm ovulating as I can get up to three positive ovulation tests in one cycle and my cycles are currently 38 days long. Has anyone else experienced reduced fertility after having Mirena? Is it worth going to my doctor even though we've been trying for less than a year?

Yes, I have been lucky to fall pg usually 1st month of trying apart from when I had my coil removed and it was 6 months. I dont know of its worth going to Dr yet but just wanted to give my experience, good luck :)

Thanks Stairgates. I've also been lucky to fall pregnant with DD1 and DD2 in the first month so this feels really unusual. Thanks for sharing, good to hear it's happened to someone else.

I was on the pill and then had two mirenas so 17 years with no periods. I Had it removed in October and we thought what would be will be. I had one chemical pregnancy Last month. But my ovulation is all Over the show.
Do you mind me asking how old you are?

I'm 26 Shiny. My cycles are definitely all over the place too. Not the immediate return to fertility the doctor indicated on removal. Annoying as we put off removal as we weren't ready to fully TTC and catch first month!
Hopefully our bodies will sort ourselves out soon.

I’m 37, never thought I wanted children, then when I got a positive and had all
The symptoms, that’s all I want now is to fall
Pregnant and have a healthy baby.
Will just have to give my body some time to get back on track.

Did you have periods whilst you had the Mirena Shiny? I've heard some people saying if they didn't have periods they've taken longer to fall pregnant. I hope you fall pregnant again soon, it's an awful time, especially with such irregular cycles it feels like torture.

Did you have regular periods before you had the mirena? It could be that you’ve got an underlying condition (eg PCOS) but the coil was masking it. Especially if like most women you didn’t really pay attention to your cycles until you started TTC. I think it’s worth going to your GP, worst case scenario they tell you to keep trying and come back if you’ve still not conceived after another six months.

Hi Grey, that's interesting you say that as it was something I had been considering. My sister has PCOS and I never tracked cycles pre DC1 and 2 but assumed they were regular and fell pregnant in the first month with both but always got dated as earlier than I thought I was at scans which may suggest my cycles were longer than the standard 28 days. I think I'll try and make a doctors appointment but don't think I'll have much luck for a while with the current CV situation. I would say I have some of the other "typical" pcos symptoms.

Oh interesting, I think if you have some of the other symptoms it's worth getting checked out. Definitely bad timing with the corona situation, but hopefully they will be able to see you soon anyway!

I Was 20 when I had my last period, and never bleed when I had my coil. I do remember at 14 they were very heavy and painful, but now they last 3 days and light.
What will be will be - but everywhere I look I see pregnant women and babies. Three friends in the last week have told me they are pregnant as well.
I hope yours fall in-line and your time comes for you soon.

I had coil removed in november, cycles returned to what i assume is normal from decemeber period although vary in length from 26 days to 30 days. This is cycle 4 now. Also fell pregnant easily with all my others so i have no idea if its from the coil 🙄 not helpful really but youre definitely not alone! I was also told by several drs fertility would return to normal straight away and by a couple of others that it would take time.

RyanStartedTheFire · 15/03/2020 20:06

Yes hatepickinganame it's definitely nice to feel less alone as it seems most people conceive basically immediately after removal! Hopefully it happens for us soon.

I may ask for a phone appointment grey to see if I can get one earlier but will understand if I'm pushed to the back of the queue!

Ah shiny it's so hard, you have my deepest sympathies. I'm just trying to take each cycle at a time but it's soul destroying when a cycle is basically a month and a half of hope. Fingers crossed for us both.
