High prolactin and low FSH levels?

Hi,

Myself and my husband have been TTC for over a year now, I had some bloods done at the doctors to check my fertility. My prolactin levels came back as 969 and my FSH came back as 1.8. They’re more concerned about my high prolactin levels.

I wondered if this had happened for anyone else and what it can mean and should I be worried? I’ve done a lot of googling but sometimes that makes things worse. Would be great to hear someone else’s advice or experience?

Thank you

My prolactin was high when I went for my blood test after TTC for over a year. They got me to repeat the test after 4 weeks and my levels were normal. The Dr thinks I was just worried about the test so maybe ask if you can have the test repeated? All the best x

I have a repeat test on Monday, if my levels are normal they’re going to refer us to a fertility clinic, did they do this for you too? Thank you x

@Mille2102 I was referred for a TV scan which I got last Wednesday and all looked good but they think I have a bit of endometriosis. Just have to wait now for an HSG and after that I'll be referred to the fertility clinic

Low fsh is an indicator that you have a good ovarian reserve (because your body finds it easy to ovulate). It's not a cause for concern - it's a good thing!

High prolactin can be problematic, but can be solved with medication.

Ah that’s good to know thank you! Hopefully it’s the second set of blood will come back all normal and go from there! Thank you so much! X

My high prolactin was due to a prolactinoma (benign Tumour on the pituitary gland). I wasn't ovulating as the excess prolactin meant my body thought it was breastfeeding a newborn. It was treated with medication and fell PG on 1st cycle after treatment started. Good luck x

I had similar to @originalusernamefail - found to have high prolactin levels 10 years ago aged 38

It was controlled with medication and I went on to have 2 DC in my 40s - the only reason it took a while is because I was single when I was diagnosed!

Mille2102 · 07/03/2020 12:12

@originalusernamefail yes the doctor did explain this to so if my second set of bloods come back and it’s still high I’ll have to have an MRI scan to check the pituitary glands for a tumour. How high was yours if you don’t mind me asking? X

@Mille2102 not particularly high 930 at highest which docs were convinced wasn't enough to affect fertility but I had no periods and no sign of ovulation. I recently had a break from treatment and my levels rose to 730 which was enough to increase my cycle length from 28-35 days.

Mille2102 · 07/03/2020 12:35

@originalusernamefail ah right okay, I have regular and very normal periods, I’ve recently been to a private clinic and had a AMH blood test done to check my ovarian reserve (in which I am awaiting the results). Thank you for your help! It’s nice to have others to share things with! X
