Endometrial polyp

Just found out I have an endometrial polyp. Waiting for further tests.

Anyone else had this? Did having it removed improve your chances of getting pregnant? Have been TTC now for four months.

Could having it removed cause scar tissue, making it harder to conceive?

Also, does anyone know whether having a polyp means you're at an increased risk of having endometriosis in other places too?

Thanks!

Hi OP, have you actually been diagnosed with endometriosis? That's a different condition. As far as I know (I'm not a gynaecologist), an endometrial polyp is a (very usually) benign growth in the endometrium (lining of uterus), whereas endometriosis is a specific condition where the endometrial cells normally in your uterus can grow outside the uterus (and can cause fertility and host of other problems).

So if it's a simple polyp, I wouldn't panic. Size and location might potentially cause some issues with conceiving - but equally cause none! They're very common and I think removal is generally straightforward. Best thing is to discuss with your gynae. They'll be able to tell you more once it's removed but should be able to tell you now where it's sitting in your uterus, and its size. Hopefully someone who's got direct experience will be along to provide some reassurance!

I had a polyp removed under local anaesthetic, after failing to get pregnant for 2 years. That procedure wasn't successful and I had another polyp by the following year. I then had that removed under general anaesthetic alongside having my tubes flushed and was told I would need IVF to conceive as one ovary was small. 3 months later I was pregnant and now mummy to a 2 year old. So polyps are certainly not end of the road.
