Impossible to get an implant removed

I wished someone had warned me it is impossible to get an implant removed. The doctors weren't interested at all. Been on hold with the sexual health clinic for 20 mins to find out it is a six week wait !!!

I can't take the pill due to a dairy intolerance.

I didn't have mine in too long before having it removed have they told you why they won't remove it?

One of our hospitals has a sexual health drop in. I just turned up for my overdue smear and asked if they could take implant out whilst there. No problem, no wait.

Six week wait isn't too bad. It's normal to take up to a year to conceive so you can use the time to take folic acid and get in the fittest, healthiest shape to prepare yourself? Conceiving can be a waiting game.

Not sure waiting six weeks = impossible, OP. I know it must seem like a long time, but sadly NHS services are horribly under funded and over stretched and this isn't an emergency. I had to wait about a month to have mine removed, it really didn't feel that long, as others have said there's a lot you can do in the meantime to kick off your ttc journey. Learning patience has been by far the hardest part of this for me so far!

So it is possible then. Just not snap your fingers and it's out.
NHS is severely stretched and at the point of collapse, what do you expect? Be thankful this kind of service is STILL available for free to be honest. I can imagine it won't be much longer.

Hi OP

Have you check to have it removed privately??
Will probably be next day, just a bit expensive...

Lilyduke · 19/02/2020 13:34

I had a similar issue when I wanted to have mine removed last year. I had to wait weeks for an appointment. You could ask to speak to the practice manager at your GP practice to ensure it wasn't just a receptionist fobbing you off.

Thank you for your responses.
I don't want to put the nhs under pressure.
It does surprise me that there doesn't seam to be a private way. I've rang my local private provider and I don't think anyone has asked them before.

I will take the advice of getting as fit and healthy as possible.
