Contemplating buying this, even with the hefty price tag. I have a small kiddo so my nighttime sleep, especially in the early hours, is not consistent at all. Is it really worth £250?!

I bought one in June and stopped using it in November as I found it annoying. The battery life was awful and it would die part way through the night. It needs a minimum of 4 hours sleep for it to count it.

I got my BFP in early January.

inahaze · 17/02/2020 16:56

does normal BBT charting with a bog standard BBT thermometer also need a min. 4 hours sleep?

did you sell on your ava?

I don’t know. I never monitored that other than with my Ava.

I haven’t tried to sell it on to be honest. I probably could if I tried to.

SnarkyGorgon · 17/02/2020 17:01

I have one, been using it since June, not had any issues, but still not pregnant! It’s easy to wear and I like that it clearly shows when I’m ovulating. I like it, not as invasive as an internal thermometer and it is easy to use. Battery lasts two nights, not had any problems on that front.

I have a £20 off code if you want one

I’ve had my Ava since July 2019 and honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it. It never seems to be accurate with my ovulation date and I don’t think it’s the most reliable unless you are super regular with your cycles. If you check out the Ava Facebook group there are lots of members on it who have issues with the bracelet. The reason I think it’s not very reliable is because it only measures your skin temperature instead of your basal body temperature, and skin temperature is more likely to be affected by external factors. Also, my Ava has recently been giving me a small rash on my wrist which is annoying. I actually decided today to have a break from it and stop wearing it.

With all that said, I’ve just started using Ovusense which I am finding much better. Your wear it like a tampon (it’s very comfortable and you can’t feel it) and it measures your core body temperature which I find to be much more accurate. It claims to be 99% accurate at confirming your ovulation date and once you have ovulated in a cycle you don’t have to wear it again until after your next period. Again, if you check out the Facebook group it seems to be overwhelmingly more positive than Ava and it’s much better for women with PCOS and irregular cycles. They’re both pricey but I would definitely recommend Ovusense over Ava.

Good luck Smile

I found OPKs much more effective at identifying my ovulation time.

claireb707 · 17/02/2020 18:20

I've had one since November and it's definitely better for me than normal bbt, I have very erratic sleep patterns, don't seem to be able to get a set time to take temp so the Ava seems to work for me on that front.
It seems to have been accurate on ovulation dates so far.

HalfPenny28 · 17/02/2020 20:13

@BeingATwatItsABingThing congratulations 🙂 how long were you trying if you don't mind me asking?

inahaze · 17/02/2020 20:49

Thanks for the info!

When do you insert the ovusense?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 17/02/2020 23:43

HalfPenny28

We conceived on cycle 13.

lunasunshine · 18/02/2020 07:48

@inahaze no problem! You insert it before bed and remove it in the morning to sync the data. It takes temperature recordings every 5 minutes throughout the night I believe. It also doesn’t require charging Smile

inahaze · 18/02/2020 08:08

Does ovusense interfere with TTC? is it not going to get a bit icky?! LOL

OP posts:
lunasunshine · 18/02/2020 08:40

@inahaze Grin you don’t wear it when you are doing the baby dance! Only for sleeping Smile So you would do what you need to do and then put it in afterwards before you go to sleep.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/02/2020 08:51

I know what inahaze means... After DTD, there is usually leakage.

inahaze · 18/02/2020 09:01

@beingatwatisabingthing yeh exactly! maybe smelly too after daily bonking hahahahahaha

OP posts:
lunasunshine · 18/02/2020 09:31

Oh I see Grin I always go for a wee afterwards, quick clean up and then put it in. You wash the Ovusense every day before and after removal too. I do know other people who just put it straight in there after BD but I’ve never fancied doing that myself!

inahaze · 18/02/2020 09:50

thanks @lunasunshine! sounds like a very viable option.... no resale value tho hahahaha ;)

OP posts:
lunasunshine · 18/02/2020 10:26

@inahaze haha! Yes, that’s true Grin
Good luck with your TTC journey!

caffeinefix · 18/02/2020 11:27

I have one. I agree it's expensive. It helped me with my BBT and it was spot on with my dates. I took the plunge after a MMC last year. Took me 6 months to conceive again, it's definitely helped. I will be sticking mine on eBay soon once I have had the scan at 12 weeks.

AsSurprisedAsYouAre · 18/02/2020 12:17

Small word of caution, I bought one off ebay (I'm usually very careful but it seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to re-sell after only a few months of use etc) and the CF reported it to Ava as 'lost' after they posted it (no idea why) but it meant that after 9 days of use my bracelet was blocked and became unusable and my data was lost. Ava customer service were amazing in explaining what had happened, and Ebay's customer protection will get me my money back, but it was really upsetting to miss my bbt rise / ovulation conformation data this month. I am not sure I would pay full price for one, I don't honestly think it would have been more accurate long term than an OPK, but regardless of that it might be an idea to skip the Ebay ones. I had no idea they could be locked remotely by Ava (and this process is irreversible, they tell me) so in case you don't know - something to also consider!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 18/02/2020 12:47

I always go for a wee afterwards, quick clean up and then put it in.

I made sure I didn’t stand up for as long as possible after DTD. Have tissue at the ready to stop any gross mess on the bedding and stick a pillow under your hips for as long as possible. I figured gravity couldn’t hurt. Blush Grin

inahaze · 18/02/2020 13:06

thanks for the heads up @AsSurprisedAsYouAre
