Pregnancy after vasectomy reversal failure

Hello- first time posting and wondered if anyone has any success stories (or otherwise) on falling pregnant after your DH has had a vasectomy reversal but first semen analysis Showed no live sperm. I am devastated and wondering whether to wait a bit longer and test again?

I'm going to follow this because my dh had his vasectomy reversed last june after 9 years so we are really hoping it happens! Unfortunately his sperm count was only 4.5million per mill at his 2 month check so I believe anything under 15 million per mil is low Cake

Raspberrytruffle · 15/02/2020 18:04

@Dgu27 I'm getting Dh tested at 1 year because it takes the body that time to renew its sperm every 3 or 4 months completely so theres hope

Hopefully some people will post with experiences @raspeberrytruffle. For info, my DH had his vasectomy 8 years ago 🙁have you had a follow up analysis? Our surgeon advised us to either wait (he has seen 5 cases where zero but then at12-18 months a pregnancy occurred) or try ivf with speed salvage and icsi. But no idea of success or costs involved for this route.

Thank you @Raspberrytruffle..I’ll keep hoping 🙏

Our reversal failed although we didn't bother retesting. We went for the ivf and icsi route. Pregnant first round. Due our little boy in a few weeks. Cost wise, think it was about 3k for the sperm retrieval, plus then the icsi. plenty of sperm retrieved to do several rounds if we needed them, or went for more than 1 child in years to come. Freezing costs around £240 a year?

@glitterbugsparkles congratulations- very pleased for you..fantastic news for you. I’m thinking about this other route as I’m nearly 39 (I already have an 8 year old but would love another with DH). Thank you so much for the costings x

My partner recently had a VR after 12 years. The analysis at 3 months showed sperm count to be on the low side of normal but the consultant expects this to improve over the coming months. I wouldn’t give up hope just yet, it can take a while for the sperm to regenerate! Can you get retested at 6 months? Fingers crossed for you all x

Thank you @Squishy93

@Dgu27 I forgot to mention, have you looked into CoQ10? It’s meant to help sperm count and motility. My partners now taking a CoQ10 multi vitamin so I’m hoping that will help things. It might be worth trying? Sorry if I’m not being very helpful!

Dgu27 · 16/02/2020 10:25

@squishy93 no I haven’t? But I will now! Thank you - anything is worth a try! It’s nice to hear from those in a similar situation x

@Dgu27 no worries, it can’t hurt can it! Yes it is, no one I know is going through the same thing x

Hi all- update, we have an appointment with our GP this week just to get some advice on next steps/what he recommends...I guess I’m just worried at 39, that I’m running out of time 😬

OP posts:
Squishy93 · 25/03/2020 08:28

@Dgu27 how did you get on with your GP?x

Dgu27 · 25/03/2020 10:04

Hey- GP not hugely helpful, just advised to get an additional test and when we go to clinic ensure we get stats on success with icsi (she seemed concerned about antibodies). Just terrible at moment as don’t think we can progress really with this lockdown situation??x

Hello, so update! Finally went for an additional analysis but again it’s zero so the reversal has not worked. So down about it especially as my DH is very focused on whether the success rates high enough for us to try IVF with ssr icsi...he is worried as I’m 39 that the cost will be too high and won’t be successful...I’m devastated as really want to try even though I worry about the same things.

Hi
I’ve just read your thread and I’m guessing by your comments we may have used the same surgeon.. after my DH had zero sperm detected we were sent a standard letter advising he knows of 5 cases that went from zero to pregnancy after 18 months..
feel let down by him If I’m honest. Taken our money and you just get a pre populated letter back.
I’m 40 and have never had a child so wondering whether to get DH tested one last time then poss move onto sperm retrieval etc. It’s wasn’t our preferred option but I feel I’m running out of time fast! :(((

Squirrel1480 · 18/10/2020 00:27

Above @Dgu27

Dgu27 · 21/10/2020 11:02

Hello @Squirrel1480 yes the letter sounds exactly the same. It’s great that your partner is supportive too and wants to try sperm retrieval as this is what I would have tried next. Unfortunately my @dh has decided he doesn’t want to keep trying and I need to accept it so we can move on. I’m devastated as didn’t expect the zero result yet seems more common as I read these posts.

Hiya can you reccomendations where you had your retrieval, really struggling at moment to find any clinics returning calls
OllietheOwl · 13/12/2020 09:13

My best friend had her DD after 4 rounds of IVF following her DH’s vasectomy (20 years ago) reversal and sperm collection. It is possible but it’s tough. It cost them a lot of money and heartache but they were lucky in the end.
