LH/FSH and Testosterone Bloods PCOS? Help!

Hi all!

I’m wondering if anyone can shed any light on my situation for me because I’m royally confused! Been TTC with OH however I have super irregular period (haven’t had a proper one in like 4 months). I went to the GP who arranged bloods as I was concerned about PCOS. Out of all my bloods only my testosterone was raised at 1.8 which the GP said was only a little over a normal level of 1.7

They did my LH and FSH levels which were 20 and 7.4 my GP is very unconcerned and says these levels suggest I’m ovulating normally and I shouldn’t be concerned about the lack of periods- i disagree. I read all about ratios for LH and FSH levels and I’m super confused which isn’t helped by the fact because of the irregular periods I have no idea where I was in my cycle when the blood test was taken.

Incidentally the day after the blood test I bled for 2 days although this was very light (nothing like a period would usually be) and cleared up after around 48 hours.

Can anyone shed any light on these blood results? My GP won’t send me for a scan to check for PCOS because he says there’s no indication from the bloods that I’d have any problems conceiving but something obviously isn’t right 😪

Thank you! X

Hi @XktldX I’ve just come across your post by chance!
When I came off the pill I went over 2, almost 3 years without a period and had rapid weight gain. I didn’t really think much of it until after my wedding when we started thinking of TTC. My mum told me to go to the dr as the symptoms pointed to pcos.
My bloods were just about out of the normal range - I can’t remember the exact values now. Though because I hadn’t had a period for so long they sent me for the scans and it turned out I did have pcos and wasn’t ovulating at all.
I think it would be worth either asking to see a different gp and explaining your concerns about your periods or even consider a private hospital appointment if that’s an option.
Although they normally say 12 months of trying before your gp will do anything, mine told me that would be pointless, because not having periods shows I wasn’t ovulating so it would be a waste of 12 months. You might find your dr will say similar, if you’re having a period once every 3-4 months then clearly something isn’t quite regular.
I was prescribed Clomid to induce ovulation and conceived on my first month of it, the fertility nurse said it shows that the only problem was lack of egg rather than anything else. I would definitely push for more information or tests, you know your body!
I hope this helps and sorry it’s so long!
