When is too early to test?

Had unprotected sex with partner last night, no DC yet. I am not due on my period until 1st-4th Feb (first day of last period was 4th Jan). My cycle is usually 28 days.

I would like to do a test at least in a week or 2... is that too early or shall I wait until my missed period? Shock

also I know it sounds ridiculous... but I have been having slight cramping today and tightness in my lower belly. Never been pregnant before so don't know if you get symptoms so quickly ?!

I would wait until your period is due. It will save you money as you might end up doing tons of tests too early.

Someone posted this on another thread and it hit home - www.verywellfamily.com/reasons-not-to-take-a-pregnancy-test-early-1959886

Thank you both.

No you don't get symptoms this early. The longer you wait to test, the more accurate the result will be. Waiting until you miss a period is the best idea. A week is far too soon and very, very few people get a positive at that point.

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 17:06

@pumpandthump I will test a few days after my period is due (if I don't come on that is) thank you x

There aren't any definitive "pregnancy symptoms" and certainly not before your missed period. If you only had sex yesterday, it will be another few days before it even implants in your uterus. By 14 days, you'd expect a positive result on a pregnancy test.

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 17:40

Thanks @CalamityJune

@CalamityJune I agree with the early testing point but I don't agree that you can't have early symptoms before a missed period. Because I had a lot of symptoms about 9-10 days after ovulation. Which led me to take a test. And it was positive. But I do agree the best thing is to wait until after a missed period to avoid any disappointment. Good luck.

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 18:04

@Pinkroses21 I will definitely wait until I have my missed period (if I do!) I am excited I think which is why it's going to be hard to wait Sad

I have been off the combined pill for 2 months, I am wondering if the pill is still in my system.

@DecemberWisper I know what you mean. I'm struggling to wait also. I'm due on 28th. So in about 10 days. I haven't had any kinds of symptoms yet but I know that even if I do I'm going to wait until my period date so that I don't get too disappointed if it's negative. The two times that I've been pregnant I've known just by the symptoms that I was pregnant so the test was just to confirm 🤣 I hope you get the result you are wanting. Keep us updated! x

pumpandthump · 18/01/2020 18:08

Yeah, the excitement really gets you doesn't it. TS going to be a long month for you! All the best and thinking positive thoughts for you.

Pinkroses21 · 18/01/2020 18:09

Thanks @pumpandthump !

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 18:19

@DecemberWisper i remember having very painful breasts at the sides. They ached a lot. Not like normal pms aching. But worse. Then I was also very very moody. I remember saying to husband that I just felt so angry at everyone. And I didn't know why. I think I got my bfp about 4-5 days before my period was due. I was surprised at how early my symptoms started. People say you don't get symptoms until after implantation. Assuming implantation takes place around 7-10dpo my symptoms must have started straight away afterwards. But everyone is different I guess. Some people get them earlier. Some don't feel anything for weeks. x

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 18:31

@Pinkroses21 you are very right everyone is different! I have read so many stories of everyone being different.

I don't want to get too excited, I have a feeling it will be negative. DP is a smoker and I know that can reduce quality of sperm Sad also I have slight endometriosis so I am expecting a miracle ! X

@DecemberWisper don't lose hope. Anything can happen. Honestly. The first time I got pregnant completely by accident. Even though we were trying to prevent it. Then the second time even when we were trying it didn't happen for a while! 🤣 so honestly. don't worry. Fingers crossed for you! x

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 18:43

Pleased for you! Thanks there is a 17 year age gap between me and DP. (He is the elder one!) so I do worry if we will be lucky Sadwe have only just started trying though. It will be a miracle I think for sureSmile

Thank you x

@DecemberWisper oh okay I guess it really depends on the age. But as far as I know age isn't really a problem for the men. I know a man who's 70 and just had their first child recently.! 😂 but I wouldn't worry. x

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 19:04

@Pinkroses21 yes in men the age is actually okGrin it's more woman isn't it. That's great regarding the 70 yo x

Pinkroses21 · 18/01/2020 19:28

@DecemberWisper plus husband is 11 years older than me too. And there haven't really been any problems. So try not to worry. I know it gets really stressful when trying to conceive. It seems to take over our minds and then it's all we think about 🤣 i wish u the best. Hopefully you get your bfp this month. Will be interesting as you're due AF a few days after me 😁 Keep us posted! x

DecemberWisper · 18/01/2020 19:42

I absolutely will, thank you @Pinkroses21 glad it worked out ok for you, fingers crossed x
