Chemical Pregnancy - Advice and Support

Hi ladies,

I had my very first BFP on Monday. I was 8DPO and it was very faint. I knew I was pregnant as had some light pink CM which I had with my first pregnancy (also a chemical) I decided not to tell my partner until I had a stronger line.

9DPO I woke up eager to test but although my liner was free of discharge, when I wiped it was a mix of red, pink and brown CM/blood and my test was negative. I called my GP who said she thought it was a chemical, as did I. I was distraught to say the least. A few hours later and the spotting had gone back to a light pink.

10DPO Still felt very pregnant! Spotting hadn't changed.

11DPO Again, still felt pregnant so I did a test. The faintest of lines came up. My colleague confirmed it as she could see it too.

12DPO (today) Did a test, went to look at it and there was blood. When I wiped I had a mix of bright blood, dark blood and CM. Too much to be classed as spotting and so I used a tampon.

I've been distraught all day, very tearful. The NHS won't see me until I've had this happen to me 3 times so I'm either waiting on another chemical pregnancy to have tests or hopefully a sticky BFP soon. I'm trying to cling on to the positives that we are able to conceive and in the 5 months we've been trying we've done it twice.

ADVICE PLEASE: I'm under no uncertainty that this is a chemical but what I'm confused about is the bleeding. With my first one, I bled hard and heavy for 7 full days once the egg had unstuck itself and never got another BFP. This time it all seems to sluggish. Although the discharge/bleed is bloody and heavier than spotting, it's not really doing much and I'm currently in no pain. With my first I needed all of the painkillers and super, super tampons! I'm almost hoping for a heavy bleed to get it all out and done with. Anyone had an experience like this? xx

Hi @Bextag sorry if this is too late but I had 3 chemical pregnancies in a row last year (post ERPC for an MMC so I think my uterus needed more time to heal). My (faint) BFPs only lasted 1-3 days each and the bleeding varied but it was never exceptionally heavy, just like a period for me. I conceived the following cycle and am now 26 weeks with no issues. I have to say the chemicals really messed with my mental health, hope you’re ok x

Hi @bananamonkey

Thank you for your reply.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I really wish you all of the success and health.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I know how I feel after two so I can't imagine your pain. It really does take a toll on your mental health, I couldn't tell you how many times I have cried this past week. I know they mean well but if one more person says "Don't be upset, don't stress, it's common, you were lucky it was so early" I will scream! I felt silly at first for being so upset but have since realised it's healthy to let it out. It was my pregnancy (albeit brief) and my loss so I will grieve. My partner is very supportive but I think he struggled with my emotions a bit. He is very sympathetic and it's his loss too but I don't think he fully understands my pain.

My real bleed started hours after I pressed send on this. I was up through the night with pain and a very heavy bleed which has settled now and feels like my normal period.

I'm glad it's almost over, I feel a lot stronger emotionally and I'm ready to get prepped for our next try now.

What a rollercoaster this all is! xx
