I’ve a DS who’s nearly 2 and we’ve been trying for another since he was 6 months old. Sadly I had a MC last year. I have just turned 40 and I’m so scared that I’m not going to conceive now. I’ve bought an Ava bracelet so we make sure we are doing it on my fertile days.

Any tips at all eg best positions, foods to help fertility, legs in the air after sex etc? I feel a bit frantic now I am 40.

Thinning of the uterine lining can be an issue over 40 I believe so do some research. I had a dc at 43.
Prior to bfp I gave up tea and coffee. And fizzy pop. Ate loads of greens and veg in general. Lots of sleep!
Good luck op.

Greenwingmemories · 10/01/2020 08:42

I gave up caffeine, went on a very healthy diet, took tons of vitamins, particularly the ones related to fertility, got fit, had reflexology, worked out my cycle so we were having sex at the right time. Basically anything that boosted my chances and it did work as I had my son at 41. Good luck!

Shouldbedoing · 10/01/2020 08:43

And the man needs to do the healthy changes

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 10/01/2020 08:57

Are you tracking CM and temperature? That helped me identify which areas needed some assistance physically!

MontanaSwing · 10/01/2020 10:02

Thanks guys. I’ll give up caffeine from today! I don’t really like veg apart from peas and carrots, and spinach if it’s in things so I do struggle with that.

Yes I’m tracking my temperature via the Ava bracelet and CM.

I have nothing to suggest but had my 2nd child just before my 42nd birthday, nearly 9 years after her older sibling. We'd presumed we weren't getting a second so she was an out of the blue baby. Would second the healthy eating, sleep thing, just as ways of reducing stress and boosting your body for pregnancy. Start taking folic acide as well if you aren't already. Fingers crossed for you.

I’ve just ordered this book as someone suggested it: It Starts with the Egg: How the Science of Egg Quality Can Help You Get Pregnant Naturally, Prevent Miscarriage, and Improve Your Odds in IVF www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0999676180/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_u-egEbEKWGKVE?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Start taking folic acid and also CoQ10 is said to improve your egg quality and improve your fertilisation rates x

MontanaSwing · 10/01/2020 14:06

Thank you I have just ordered some C0q10

Raleighx · 10/01/2020 14:16

Good luck! Started taking it a month before TTC and it happened first try. Don’t know if the two are related but I’ve heard really good things. X

MontanaSwing · 10/01/2020 15:15

Ooh that is encouraging!

If looking at CoQ10 consider getting Ubiquinol - CoQ10 is poorly absorbed by the body but ubiquinol is more easily absorbed.

MontanaSwing · 10/01/2020 15:47

Thanks, That’s what’s I’ve got. I did a bit of research before.

I don't have any tips as such, but I took well over a year of military planning including several losses to conceive my DS. He was finally conceived with some rubbish, unplanned dtd with no idea of ov after a third m/c and born when I was 41.

I'm now 42 and 9/10 ish weeks with my third, conceived who knows when with no tracking or planning after dtd once in about 6 weeks. I'm defo not saying don't track or being one of those 'relax and it'll happen' people. More to say not to get overwrought, 40 is not too old and good luck!

Helbelle17 · 10/01/2020 17:14

We had a mmc with our first when I was 40. We thought that was it for us, so started looking at adoption. I fell pregnant almost straight away with our DD, who is now nearly 3.
Had another MC when she was 1, devastating. We tried for a year - changed diet, took vitamins, exercised, tracked everything, went to the gp. Finally started to come to terms with not having another, relaxed a bit and here I am 23 weeks pregnant at 44.
So not focusing on it and relaxing a bit really worked for us.

Greenglassteacup · 10/01/2020 17:18

I think it’s basically down to luck. You can eat healthily and take regular exercise which can’t hurt

ColaFreezePop · 10/01/2020 17:21

Mine didn't take military planning but:

  1. I've always been an avid exerciser.
  2. I had pass issues with vitamin D, vitamin B12 and iron and they were at optimal levels. I actually take a B complex rather than just B12.
  3. I had a month's sugar detox then went out partying and drinking too much alcohol as I had time off work.
  4. I convinced my DP to eat more vegetables, do more exercise and drink less alcohol.

In January 2018 I found that I had put on weight over Christmas and my usual exercise classes were really hard, then I discovered I was pregnant at 42.

ckc45d10 · 13/01/2020 22:32

@randominternetperson ubiquinol is the reduced, active form. But, you may also want to look into the absorption form. For example, water and fat-soluble CoQ10 or ubiquinol absorbs better.

Swife · 13/01/2020 23:05

@MontanaSwing due to age our hormones may be off causing low Progesterone. I would definitely get that checked since Progesterone is responsible for helping us get and stay pregnant. I'm 38 and I'm taking 400 mg daily, vaginally because once going off Endo meds my hormones were way off. Good luck and lots of baby dust 🧚🏽‍♀️

Elouera · 13/01/2020 23:14

I fell pregnant the 1st time at age 38 after TTC 4yrs. We both had lost 10kg and I'd just left a stressful job. I really think the weight loss was a key part. Unfortunately, that pregnancy and the next both mc, I'm now nearly 42 and TTC 8yrs in total with no kids for either of us.
I got OH some nutri advance mens multivitamins online. I read research papers saying that lycopene (found in tomatoes) can improve sperm quality, and those pills contain it.
Last week were were at the IVF clinic who advised that at our age, its likely older eggs to be the issue, as OH's sperm count was normal. Have you had any tests done? Day 21 bloods for yourself, scan, semen analysis? I'd look at getting fitter, try relaxing, and eat a good diet with plenty of veg.

Swife · 13/01/2020 23:24

@Elouera you're also correct I'm doing all of that now as well. Sry for your previous loses. From age 22 I've had 4 loses. I had endo, then my DH feared for my health. He really didn't get that older age makes for a harder time conceiving 😒

Elieza · 14/01/2020 18:52

Acupuncture is good at helping women conceive and stay pregnant, and can help with labour and after.

littlejalapeno · 14/01/2020 19:26

Good luck and baby dust! I would say try to relax and get good nights sleep in the days before you would expect implantation. I’m convinced we conceived due to inadvertently planning a holiday around that time, were we napped and enjoyed ourselves. We both started vitamins and omega 3s (and evening primrose for first week after period for me) three months before trying to conceive. And very healthy diets. It could be coincidence but can’t hurt! (Also go hold and cuddle some babies 😂)

Karwomannghia · 14/01/2020 19:29

Have sex every 2-3 days throughout your cycle.

bellinisurge · 14/01/2020 19:31

I got pregnant for the first and only time at 40 within a couple of months of trying. But in the year leading up to it, I stopped alcohol, got plenty of sleep and tried to have a healthy varied diet.
The only time thing is because I got very poorly after birth (unrelated to the pregnancy or my baby).
