Blood tests and 21 day progesterone test "normal" - what now?

Hi all,

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 6 months but I have really irregular cycles with periods that can be 9 days long. I also think I have a short luteal phase (sometimes 8 days) and pain at ovulation.

I recently went to the GP to discuss this and had blood tests and a 21 day progesterone test. I called for my results and was told they were all "normal" but with what I mentioned above I am still concerned.

I realise 6 months isn't long but is anyone else in the same boat? What did you do next?

Hi, if your cycles are irregular, the day 21 progesterone test may be inaccurate. The 'day 21' test should be 7 days post ovulation, which will give you the accurate progesterone reading. X

I would recommend getting your husbands semen checked too x

Hi Rae444, I too got my 21 day blood test results this week. Normal with no further action required! I have been ttc for 9 months. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow to discuss what my next steps should be. I'm 37 years old.

To update if anyone sees this my husbands semen results are normal too.
They are referring us to a specialist but it could take up to a year.

Hi all, I'm due to go for 21day blood test in a couple of weeks so it's interesting to hear how you've all got on with them. My doctor pretty much prescribed dtd four times a week, every week! He said this is ideally what will help but to have the blood done to check (honestly he was so lovely bless him) as husbands swimmers are all fine! He did say, not sure if anyone in this thread has been on it, that the depo injection can cause a lag effect so technically although my cycles returned to normal very quickly (within a month, rather then the year as suggested) the effects may have only just been wearing off. If that makes sense?! Anyone else on here had the contraceptive injection? I'm also 35 and husband is 40.
