Vitamins

A friend has suggested taking some pregnancy vitamins whilst trying to conceive. Should my DH take some too? Not the female ones obviously. Boots have a three for two offer on and not sure whether to just get some for me or the combined pack for both of us.

I don't think the men's ones do much unless you take them for months and months. There are ways to make sure sperm is healthy like not putting a laptop on his lap etc. Women's vitamins you just need folic acid Smile

My OH doesn't take any vitamins - I did wonder whether he should but he is sure he doesn't need to! 😂

I take folic acid, B12 and have just started taking vitamin D. I eat a really well balanced diet but am vegan so need B12 regardless of TTC as it only occurs naturally in animal based foods. I did read that it's not uncommon for those who aren't vegan to be deficient in it too though. It is important for red blood cell and DNA development. I've started taking vitamin D as many people are deficient (not enough sunlight!) and studies have shown those with low levels have a harder time conceiving (although the converse argument of taking vitamin D aiding conception hasn't been proven I don't think).

I'm by no means an expert but this is where I'm at with vitamins at the moment!

Thanks for the advice it is appreciated. I hadn't thought of Vitamin D. I will start taking more of that as I was deficient in it around 18 months ago and it caused me lots of problems with muscular pain, tiredness etc mostly sorted out now but I wouldn't want that to be the reason things don't happen
