Mirena Crash

Hi, I'm looking for any help/advice? I had my mirena coil removed in August to start trying for our 2nd baby. I'm not pregnant yet but my question is, has anyone heard of or experienced the mirena crash? I had never heard of it until a friend mentioned it and it all seems to make sense now. I had my 1st one removed and fell pregnant quickly with my dd, whilst pregnant I developed severe anxiety. I got my 2nd one when she was 4 months and was doing ok but since removal this time I have gone back to square one, terrible anxiety, fatigue and when reading symptoms of mirena crash it all adds up. I'm wondering if this is a real thing and of so, what can help? A friend suggested evening primrose oil?? Thanks in advance xx

Dont think im much help, had my mirena removed 28th Nov, but i dont think its affected me really other than the return of pms symptoms! I'd advise going to GP though if its not manageable, i suffer from generalised anxiety and referred myself to the steps to change program for behavioural therapy. I only went once but they gave me lots of information and a few tips on how to control anxious thoughts. Hope this helps a little.

Hi,
So pleased i've found this thread. Did you find out any more? I had the Mirena fitted in May and suffered all sorts of issues - headaches, anxiety and panic attacks. When I finally worked out what was causing them I had it taken out pretty quickly (mid November 2019). I initially felt ok but then about 6 weeks later I started feeling awful - panicky and with heart palpitations. I've been to see the doctors and nothing has shown up on any tests and they think it's probably anxiety. I've never had this before so can only think it's linked to the coil but I don't know when it will go away. My cycle is getting back to normal so I'm wondering if it's hormone related as the hormones adjust. Sorry this is a long rant.Just wanted to say you're not alone! If anyone has any helpful thoughts they're very welcome!!

Hi @Moster!! No I haven't managed to get much further, I didnt get many replies here and when I asked the gp he said that the mirena wouldn't cause these symptoms. However reading online it does make sense and my symptoms and the timings, it all seems too much of a coincidence. When I got pregnant with my dd I had only had my mirena removed 2 months prior and thought I was having prenatal depression and anxiety but I wonder if it stemmed for the mirena. I got it back in when my dd was 4 months old and began feeling better then got it removed to try again back in Aug, like to say I initially felt ok then within around 6 weeks I began getting signs of anxiety and OCD returning, within a couple.of weeks I was as bad (or worse) than ever. My cycles are evening out again now and have been contraception free for almost 5 months and am starting to slowly feel improvement but I am also on medication now and having cbt and practicing mindfulness so not sure what's helping most. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time too xx

@MrsSkr @Moster ive seen quite a few different doctors since having my coil removed and theyve all told me different things, the clinic that removed it said everything would go straight back to normal immediately, a gp told me it would take weeks for my body to get used to not having it and the a&e dr (got really severe cramps with first af after removal, they sent me to a&e to check me out) said i was having a bad reaction to the removal... half the time i wonder if they really understand how the things actually work... still not much help to either of you with the crash side of things i know but just thought id let you know you're not alone with side effects even if it isnt the same. Hope you both get sorted and get answers x

Thanks both for your replies. It’s certainly strange not to have really had much anxiety and to now be on hyper alert with palpitations. It sounds like we might need to ride it out until hormones resettle. If I find anything out I’ll get back in touch. Hope you get sorted soon x
