Scar / incisional endometriosis and getting pregnant again...

Hi all,

So to cut a long story short, I had an emergency C-section 3.5 years ago and then this year went to my GP about pain/a lump near my scar and after various scans and examinations it is believed that I have either endometriosis or an adhesion on my scar following the c section. Not 100% confirmed but they're pretty sure it could be endo (pain is worse during period).

My consultant said they could either operate or I could just wait and see what happens. I opted for the latter as wasn't keen on invasive surgery if it wasn't life threatening.

However now am concerned about whether it could cause complications conceiving / being pregnant / giving birth a second time - we would like to try for a second this year.

My consultant didn't seem to think it would be an issue (I did ask the question), but does anyone have any experiences of this / advice they could give me?

Many thanks in advance!

Hey! I had my DD 2 years ago via emergency csection and suffered badly afterwards, after loads of investigations/scans etc I was sent to a gynaecologist. I had a laparoscopy in June and was diagnosed with stage 2 endometriosis - she took away what she could but there is still some there. She told me it would be easier for me to conceive after surgery?

Thanks for your reply @Sadie95.

Yeah this is what I'm worried about, whether it's going to make it harder to conceive? I am confused because if it's on my scar it's not "primary" endometriosis but secondary just from my c section and I don't know if that brings with it the same issues that primary endo does, if that makes sense.

But I saw a gynaecologist and asked him the question of whether it would affect conceiving/pregnancy etc and he didn't seem to think it would? So confusing :(

@shojam13 oh I'm not too sure then, I think mine was originally primary due to the section and then turned into secondary.

How long have you been TTC?

I had a c section and ended up with endometriosis, I successfully had another ds 3 years later with no issues. The endo got worse after that though and I ended up having surgery which really helped the pain etc.

@Whyhaveidonethis ah thank you for your response! It's really good to know that someone else in the same position has been through this.

At the moment the pain isn't too bad, it comes and goes but isn't excruciating which is why I discussed it with the consultant and decided to see how it goes and not opt for surgery straight away. But I've then started worrying about conceiving/pregnancy and worrying I've made the wrong choice!

Honestly I just feel so deflated about the whole thing, as if having an emergency c section wasn't bad enough, to end up with endometriosis as a result of it really sucks :'(

@Sadie95 still very early days of TTC to be honest but am asking the question because I'm wondering whether I should be having surgery to remove the endo before TTC if it could cause complications.

Although my consultant (gynae) didn't seem to think it would be an issue... I do have a tendency to worry about things!!

Have you considered a fertility massage and also using castor oil packs. I did this when TTC and was waiting for my surgery date to come through as I have scar tissue and endometriosis. Well that month I fell pregnant. Could be coincident but supposdily the massage and castor oil packs can help break away scar tissue naturally without the need for surgery. It was quite relaxing too. It might help with the pain even if you are not currently TTC
