Hi all,

How are we all? Recovered from Christmas?

I will give you a little back story. We have two children DD (12), DS (9). DS was born with Strep B which at three days old became Meningitis. He has been left cerebral palsy, epilepsy and learning difficulties.

Originally we always wanted a large family but having DS we knew he would be our priority, beginning of 2017 we had a pregnancy scare. Turns out it was polycystic ovaries but it got us talking, we were financially okay, settled in a new house, DS had come on so far and we felt, we would see what happens. We had no issues conceiving the first two, both conceived within six months, I concluded that with the cysts, it was going to take longer.

We are approaching three years in March 2020 and have had all the fertility tests. Sperm test came back abnormal with a low sperm count of less than two million. Basically told, IVF with ICSI is our only option.

Don't exactly have the available funds to spend £8k on IVF right now. I'm 37 now. Our first two I was 24 and 27!

2020 is the year of attempting to make it happen. I need to lose 2 stone at least to get my BMI under 30. We as a family are going to eat more fruit and vegetables and think about the food we eat and how we exercise.

We have been taking viabiotics Wellman and Wellwoman for two and a half years now and this will continue. I am 38 at the end of 2020 and would like to have begun further investigations privately.

I just wondered if there are others over 35 who are trying to conceive who fancied a ttc buddy? I am always happy to offer support, advice and motivation as and when needed.

Thanks

Gem x

Hi OP,
Hope you are well. I am 37 also and have been TTC for around 2 and a half years. It's been a struggle and decided to chill out last year with it all because it was stressing me out.
Had tests and everything is fine although I'm sure something is wrong.
I've started taking folic acid, vitamin d, iron and evening primrose oil..DH is going to start taking supplements too in the next few weeks.
How's things with you?

I'm 44 in April and hoping it will happen for us, so I wish I was 37! I'm.not sure if I'm too old for it to happen. I'm trying to lose some weight too, 2 stone would help me. Not really bothering with tests, my doctor would probably laugh at me, after 44 they dont even use your eggs in IVF so hoping for a natural miracle so just DTD as we can xx

I also get Strep B luckily they know I get the infection so I had antibiotics when giving birth to my previous children. So sad that happened to your DS xx

Hi @pineapple2, I am sorry to hear of your struggles. It feels harder this month than any other as 10 years ago today in fact I found out I was pregnant with my DS.

I dont know about you but I go through waves of knowing its unlikely to happen without intervention to hoping that doctors dont always get it right. Then the opposite kicks in and I'm all hopeful and then af arrives and I hit rock bottom. I think it's harder as we approach year 3 of trying.

Hi @Ylladyoll, I would say age is just a number. It is in fact and 44 is still young but like you say biologically our bodies are aging maternally. Saying that plenty of women give birth naturally in their 40s.

I chart my cycles due to their irregularity and I wish that didn't give me hope when it analyses 74pts towards pregnancy. It's not fool proof. I've had all the cycles, that you can have and no pregnancy I think that was the pcos.

Sadly, strep b is a big part of our lives. I should get antibiotics in labour but our area keep changing the rules and monitor the baby instead, that worked great the first time, I'm also 100% sure it still leads to late on set in some cases. It wont make those newborn days very easy, if it happens.

I wish you both the best of luck on your ttc journey. Xx

@alittlebitsocial
Yes I think to myself people have had success stories so therefore I think no need for doctors but me and DH will try for another 6 months properly and then if no luck then to explore other options however doing I'll meet the criteria for IVF as I've got a daughter already. She's 18..
Going to loose abit more weight and try and eat as healthy as I can..
Good luck x
