No periods, no ovulation - Can I induce either?

Hi All,

So I thankfully had DD1 3 years ago. Conceived naturally approx 4 weeks of coming off birth control.

In March 2019 I came off my contraceptive patch in the hope of conceiving baby no 2. In the 2 months that followed I had regular periods but thereafter they’ve been all over the place, cycles have been between 4-6 weeks and ovulation tests have been rarely positive.

Anyway, since 27th October I’ve had no periods/no ovulation. Nothing.

Drs said blood tests were fine, no obvious causes, adopt a wait and watch approach.

A) anyone have any experience with periods simply stopping without obvious reason, B) is there anyway to induce periods/ovulation?

Thanks :)

I don't think there's any thing they can give you from the gp to start them sadly. My sister had the Depo injection and she had no periods for 8 months after the one.

I remember randomly a few years ago now bleeding for 2 months straight and nothing for 6. They could stop the bleeding but not start it.

I know if you have TTC for a year and nothing you can ask to be referred to the hospital for help. I think Clomid can help you ovulate (don't quote me though, I've not had experience with it). I looked into it in a private clinic as I was with NHS too but I conceived naturally in the end.

What about the actual pill, progesterone only? It could atleast make you have periods and aim to stop it after 3/4 months.

@Pinkflame1 it might be worth you looking into Angus Castus, I've used it once and it did the trick for me brining on AF, however it is a strong herb and 'self-medicating' essentially so I'd do a bit of research into it before taking it, however if you have neither ovulation or periods I can't see it doing much harm. Failing that then your GP?

Hi. I came off the depo and was bleeding but not ovulating. Had day 21 progesterone tests which were low. Doctor prescribed me the pill for a couple of months which kick started my ovulation (I started tracking with OPKs). Good luck

Doctors can prescribe norehisterone which will restart your cycle.

Isn't that to stop it? If you want to go on holidays ect?

Michellebops · 20/12/2019 20:27

@MissPepper8 it does both but it's primarily classed as the dirty weekend pill.

But does restart your cycle. My friend was given It as she was bleeding constantly through her cycle

Thanks all. I’ll have a look into some of the options suggested.

Drs didn’t seem keen to prescribe anything, she was pretty adamant that the whole process should be given another few months before we consider anything further 😒 x

Old wives tail is you cuddle a young baby for as long as you can. It's supposed to kick start your hormones, bu5 it's probably bunkum

@Pinkflame1 I was also told to just wait for many months, they eventually prescribed provera for me which you take for 5 days to induce a bleed which I repeated for a few months to try and regulate your body/ hormones and kick it into doing it itself x
