Coenzyme Q10? Anyone used this ttc?

PurpleRayne89 · 18/12/2019 23:00

Hey yall,

I’ve been reading into Coenzyme Q10 and apparently it’s good for those with low AMH as it supports the internal materials of eggs giving them more energy. Obviously there is a more scientific explanation, this is my basic synopsis so don’t hold it against me.

Anywho, have any of you used this to successfully conceive or do you know anyone who has?

Thanks in advance ☺️

@PurpleRayne89 following with interest as I have just started taking it. Wasn’t sure of the correct dosage though and apparently I haven’t been taking enough. It should be something like 800(mg?) but I’ve only been on 100 so I’m heading online today to buy some super strength.

yesyesdear · 20/12/2019 08:00

I had a low AMH when tested twice and the second time I used COQ10 (the ubiquinol form, more easily absorbed, I think) and fell pregnant first cycle. I can’t remember how much I took though, sorry!! Also was taking lots of maca powder, myo inositol, iron supplement and pregnancy vitamins. And Vit D.

danielasummer · 20/12/2019 08:09

Hi, I have CoQ10 in my pregnancy vitamins (Vita West Vitafem). No idea if they work as TTC Cycle #1! Keep us updated please! x

PurpleRayne89 · 20/12/2019 12:48

@zoomies1 I read online the correct dose was 600 but could vary with the type. I’ve ordered some high strength 100 ones from Holland and Barrett so hopefully they’re useful. I’ll start off low to see how they sit with me before increasing the dose. I’ll update x

@yesyesdear thanks for responding. What level was your AMH at the time? Glad you conceived so soon also :) they say on some posts/articles that low AMH is also a marker for low egg quality too.

@danielasummer hey there. I will definitely keep you updated on how things go. First cycle failed, I think timing was poor. Second recently ended in MC at 4 weeks and my third will be Jan. I’m talking IUI :) x

My first ivf cycle was rubbish and eggs were all low quality. Managed to get a couple of average quality blastocysts. I'd previously been taking just wellwoman pre conception supplements

Switched on to pro ceive max with 200mg coq10 you can buy from boots/Holland and Barrett and results second time around slightly better but still not great (PGS tested and all embryos abnormal but that could just be me)

I'm now switching to natural modified ivf - low dose stims as the doctors have said no point forcing my body to mature crap eggs - just go for the couple of eggs which the body decides is best quality

I've also changed to 200mg ubuiquinol which order from amazon and will see if that makes a difference

PurpleRayne89 · 20/12/2019 13:25

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted thanks for sharing your experience. I have everything crossed for you !!! I will put good energy out there for you and I hope you have a healthy baby 🥰

I will update how I get on. I’m not expecting Miracles but from the price I paid for them, I hope they make even the smallest difference.

I have been using ubiquinol. Seemed to help with IVF at least; produced 18 eggs at the age of 39

PurpleRayne89 · 20/12/2019 16:18

@EL8888 oh lovely, that’s a lot of eggs. What were the quality like and what is your AMH level! Best if luck with your treatment :)

OP posts:
EL8888 · 20/12/2019 16:57

Not sure about the quality as we never got any exact feedback. We started with 18; 4 didn’t fertilise and 4 were abnormal. We ended up with 5, 5 day blastocysts. 2 were were implanted but failed. 3 are left in the freezer. My AMH was 25.1 l think?

PurpleRayne89 · 20/12/2019 17:07

@EL888 you have a really good AMH level for your age which means you will presumably have better egg quality than someone with a lower AMH. Those with good AMH respond better to IVF treatments. I hope you get your BFP real soon x

Thanks @PurpleRayne89 It’s frustrating as they can find no issue with either of us, we pass all tests with flying colours. We have seen a few different doctors; NHS and private

Good luck to you with everything. We were lucky enough to get 1 round of IVF through the NHS. The doctor at the private clinic it was done through, was very keen for me to keep on taking ubiquinol, vitamin d, complex vitamin b and Royal Jelly.

At the very least these supplements cant hurt so l say go for it

PurpleRayne89 · 20/12/2019 17:52

@EL8888 having nothing wrong and it not working is probably more frustrating than knowing what the issue is. That way it can be addressed directly. I know it’s cliche but the only thing you can do is to give it time. Most people are successful within the first three rounds. First one is like a dummy run but they won’t tell you that.

I believe it will happen for you both in the near future. Stay positive and keep keep trying.

Thank you also 😉

EL8888 · 20/12/2019 18:10

@PurpleRayne89 We only got 1 round through the NHS. Financially us paying for another few rounds isn’t realistic. Plus with the doctors not even knowing what the problem is, logically l think it might be even more of a waste of money. I’m still coping with the never ending side effects after IVF, which no one highlighted to me and lm reluctant to experience again

PurpleRayne89 · 20/12/2019 18:15

@EL8888 oh, nobody ever mentions the side effects of the medication or the aftermath. I didn’t think of it until you just mentioned it. If you feel you’re able to go ahead with it in future. Denmark and Prague charge £5000 -/+ for three rounds of IVF. The UK is way too expensive and the NHS postcode lottery is in full swing. Are you and your partner also trying naturally?

OP posts:
EL8888 · 20/12/2019 19:23

No they don’t unfortunately.

We need to find a few thousand pounds for each frozen embryo transfer and we have 3 in the freezer. Our NHS trust with 1 cycle literally pays for the egg harvest and a fresh transfer. We will also have to start paying for embryo storage at some point as well. I am reluctant to spend any more money, time, effort or emotional energy on the whole thing. I’m already dreading the numerous appointments and the medication for the frozen transfer. Being brutally honest lm not convinced by the whole thing, it’s more an obligation / feel like l should situation now lm so far into it

We would be trying naturally but probably TMI thanks to the fore mentioned IVF side effects, l don’t seem able to stop bleeding

pinknsparkly · 20/12/2019 19:39

I put my husband and I both on the supplements recommended by the It Starts With The Egg book and we both took ubiquinol (a more potent, and also more expensive!) type of CoQ10. I was on 400mg a day and I think he was on 250mg but I can't remember. We'd been taking the Vitabiotics Conception tablets for over a yearyear I think carefully tracking my periods and CM, with no success, but after about three months of ISWTE and on our second month of using Ovusense (to accurately track my fertile cycle) I fell pregnant! I have a list of medical reasons as long as your arm as to why conceiving would be incredibly hard for me, including an AMH so low that the NHS would only consider me for IVF if I used an egg donors but somehow I did. I'd do exactly the same thing again if we decide to push our luck and try again in the future. Good luck, and it take heart that it really can happen!

MaxiMarry · 18/06/2021 16:44

Honestly, I don't know if it is suitable for those with low AMH.

MaxiMarry · 18/06/2021 16:47

Honestly, I don't know if it is suitable for those with low AMH. Still, it is a beneficial supplement that has a positive effect on the work of the body and significantly increases the speed of its functions. We took Coenzyme Q10 ansbotanics.com/products/coenzyme-q10-coq10-powder?variant=12393419341888 with my husband before pregnancy for better conception. At first, I did not get pregnant, and only after 4 months, the test showed a positive result. More than that, I really felt better and semed that my body recruited energy while taking it. I think everything worked in the complex, so it makes sense to try.

Ronnyrambler · 15/10/2021 08:50

I have severely low AMH at 0.2 and am 41 so refused IVF on NHS (not bc of age, ut's upbtpmo 43 whzre I live but amh must be min 6.0) and took Ubiquinol 400mg. Was recently pregnant which could have been helped by ubiquinol but had MC between 5 and 7 weeks. Also taking pregnacare vits, omega 3s, d, b12, b6, magnesium and calcium all of which (apart from pregnacare) I took for PMS.
Anyone with low AMH pregnant after taking ubiquinol/ coq10?

PurpleRayne89 · 31/10/2021 13:14

@Ronnyrambler hello, sorry about your journey so far. I am certain it will end in a happily ever after.

I currently have a 7 week old son. I started taking Ubiquinol leading up to egg collection for my IVF. I managed to produce 7 eggs 3 which became embryos. 1 high grade one which failed, one average which was my successful cycle and I have my last embryo still frozen. I cannot say for sure whether the Ubiquinol played a part but it’s something I did differently. It didn’t increased the number of eggs but could have improved the quality. X

PurpleRayne89 · 31/10/2021 13:15

@Ronnyrambler have they investigated why your keep MC’ing? I would ask for further investigation into that. Also, ask about progesterone suppositories which could help in preventing MC.

OP posts:
Ronnyrambler · 02/11/2021 13:52

Thanks @PurpleRayne89 I've only mc'd once. It's likely because of my low ovarian reserve i.e. eggs are low quality. I did call the GP and asked whether he could make an exception due to my age and get me tested, which they usually only do after 2-3 MCs. He double checked and said they wouldn't as they wouldn't then do anything differently based on any info provided by the tests i.e. there's no treatment for this as far as the NHS is concerned. I'm now removing all toxins from my home and taking even more supplements and have completely stopped alcohol, am on last couple of days of weak tea before I stop 100%, have quit sugar and am exercising and eating well. So we'll see! It may be enough to alter FSH/ AMH levels as the the book It Starts with the Egg.
