Progesterone Cream

Hi Ladies,

I have been TTC now for 10 months (well actually 13 but have only actively ‘tried’ for 10) and so far not even a hint of a BFP no chemicals pregnancy, nothing.

I am 38 (was 37 when I started trying) so I know things can take longer than in a much younger women but I’m starting to worry that there might be a problem. If there is then I already know the issue is with me.

I know people will say to get get tests at the doctors and that will be my next step but that won’t all get done before I’m due to ovulate again and I don’t want to waste this month as every month counts, especially at my age!

Anyway, to get to the point, I have been reading lots of posts and articles about progesterone cream and wondered if any ladies had any success stories?

I believe my LP is only 11 days, which is on the short side, and I wondered if I might have low progesterone levels. This hasn’t been confirmed by a doctor and I’m wondering if using the cream could cause problems if I don’t need it?

Any insight and/or success stories would be gratefully appreciated.

I’m interested in knowing the answer to this too. I had a miscarriage a few months ago and since then have had a luteal phase of 8-9 days. I’ve read that high strength vitamin C can help to lengthen it so am giving that a whirl this month.

bettymoo212 · 23/11/2019 16:11

I’ve read that you should only take progesterone under the guidance of a doctor because if taken at the wrong time it can actually disrupt ovulation.

Waiting2BAMummy · 23/11/2019 16:23

yes @bettymoo212 it stops ovulation if you take it before you are due to ovulate so you're supposed to take it once ovulation is confirmed.

I was planning to start from 4 days after m positive opk as I would have thought I would have ovulated by then. I don't temp as I don't sleep well and often get up in the night which throws of your temps.

Yes I have I started using it when I was pregnant and started spotting. Had got some in as suspected low progesterone as think I had a few very early miscarriages in the years previous. I used every morning and evening (occasionally I forgot an application...) from around 5 weeks to around 37 weeks. Had a successful full term pregnancy x

Waiting2BAMummy · 23/11/2019 20:35

Thanks @Mollie3 I think I'm going to give it a try - it can't hurt, right?!

No I really don’t think so! Just make sure you’ve ovulated like previous poster suggested. You should rub into a different area each application I.e. legs, arms, torso repeat; I can’t remember the reason behind this tho! Something to do with proper absorption I think...
I used
Now Foods, Natural Progesterone, Skin Cream, Unscented, 3 oz (85 g)
From eBay

Thanks @Mollie3 I've just ordered it, half the price of the one I was looking at!

Is one pump a 20mg dose?

They can be expensive especially if your using it every cycle in case of pregnancy. Great that it’s half price of other one tho! Yeah I think so should say on box, I did one pump morning and one evening xx

Hi ladies @bettymoo212 @Waiting2BAMummy
Sorry to jump on but I just wondered how you knew your progesterone was low?

bettymoo212 · 08/12/2019 21:37

Hey @carleygh, for me I suspect it because my luteal phase is much shorter since my miscarriage. I used to have an LP of 12 days and since my miscarriage it has only been 8/days. Shorter LPs can be caused by low progesterone.

carleygh · 08/12/2019 22:39

Thanks @bettymoo212 I'm so confused but think i May have it. I suffer with a lot of dryness and my periods last no longer Than a day and aren't heavy at all x

bettymoo212 · 08/12/2019 23:20

Do you know for sure that you ovulate each month? If so, is your luteal phase a normal length (10-14 days)? If so, I'm no expert but I think that would suggest that your progesterone levels are OK, but if you're worried you could always make an appointment with your doctor and ask for a progesterone test. x

carleygh · 08/12/2019 23:32

It's 15/16 days. I've been on Clomid so I have been ovulating but not sure if i will now I'm
Off jt x

IlonaRN · 09/12/2019 08:39

I had a short luteal phase, and progesterone cream lengthens it.
I temp even if my sleep is disrupted - the result is still good enough to tell when I have ovulated.

GreatestShowUnicorn · 09/12/2019 10:17

Have a look at soya isoflavones my friend had a short LP and two miscarriages then used soya and got twins

Lilice · 09/12/2019 13:03

Im quite tempted to use the cream as well. Ive got a short luteal phase, 10 days max and probably less. I'm getting my day 21 tests done tomorrow and hope my doctor will prescribe progesterone. If not, I'll probably end up buying the cream online.

Mystie · 09/12/2019 18:23

OP have you tried seed cycling? There's quite a lot of research to support the theory that alternating between flax/pumpkin (follicular phase) and sunflower/sesame (luteal phase) can help boost both oestrogen and progesterone production

catlady3 · 09/12/2019 23:11

Hiya, just to say that I suspected my LP was only around 10-11 days as well, based on OPKs. However, I got pregnant after two months with the Ava band, which put my fertile days about two days ahead of what the ovulation tests were saying! So in case you're being very careful about timing, might be worth a try to go for a slightly wider window.
