Too scared to try again after ectopic!

I've had surgery to remove an ectopic and my tube and I'm absolutely petrified of it happening again

The report came back to say there was no evidence of any inflammation, infection abnormality. It was all normal so no reason for it to have happened

I have one tube left which looks ok apparently

I'm just really frightened

Anyone else been through this?

Both my sisters had ectopic pregnancies after their first baby. One went on to have a successful pregnancy the other had 4 more successful ones!

Me. It took me a few months to get my head around it again. It's normal you've just been through surgery and all the heartache. Flowers

@hartof I feel like I need to try again soon if I'm going to as I'm older but I don't feel ready
Did you conceive again?

This sat is 2 years since I had my ectopic. My tube ruptured but they saved the ovary and I was told that the tubes are actually pretty mobile so my remaining tube can float over to that side, so the reduction in fertility isn't that much as long as the ovaries are functioning normally.
I was devastated, but at my next cycle I wanted to try again (it had taken us a year to conceive) as I just wanted my baby back. I knew after that month I would probably want a break from ttc as it would have felt more final. But by some miracle or basic biology where you are supposed to be extra fertile following a loss I conceived again that month and I have a beautiful 14mo now who Is very much my rainbow baby.
I'm back on the ttc wagon again now (aged34 so not a spring chicken), month 1 so have mixed feelings. Obviously worried incase it happens again, like you there was no reason for it and my right tube seemed fine so they said I shouldn't really be at any higher risk.
I got a private scan last time at 5w4d as I ruptured at 6w exactly, once they see the sac is in the right place you are ruled out for ectopic again. It was hard at times, i had only had a few weeks to process the loss before the madness of going through it all again esp as I found out super early (9dpo) so had to wait a while to be sure the bfp were really getting darker and wait for the scans.
It's ok to be scared, but a gold outcome can still happen. I'm still fairly positive we can again- I seem to get quite strong sided ovulation pains these days so I plan to try our hardest on right side months just incase!!

My first pregnancy was ectopic, resulting in tubal removal.
My 10 and 8 year olds are upstairs sleeping. The 2 weeks between getting a the positive pregnancy test and an early scan were horriffic with constant knicker and symptom watch, but everything om both times. Both conceived within 2 months of ttc.

Have you found the chat boards of the ectopic pregnancy trust?

Purplemushroom · 12/11/2019 22:07

Sorry this happened to you. I had an ectopic 4 years ago. I found it really hard - it hurt not just for the loss of the baby but also for the chances of getting pregnant again.

But believe me you can get pregnant with one tube. I have a 2 year old snoring next to me. When I got pregnant again, I was looked after incredibly well with early reassurance scans which helped as like you I was very scared.

Sending you lots of Flowers

Hiya, following your post as I'm in the same situation. I had the surgery in May and this is our first month trying for #2 again. I swing between excitement and positivity and feeling terrified and not wanting to. I have certainly read positive stories though.

Sammyclaire22 · 17/11/2019 22:43

Tonight I've had a very very faint positive test. Will test again tomorrow, but pretty darn scared about what happens next. I had spotting only about 4/5 days post ovulation so I'm scared its in the tube again. I had to fight to get a scan before 6 weeks last time (private or nhs) and all I can think about is if they make me wait and there is a heartbeat again then they will take my other tube.

It’s very comforting that I am not the only one in this situation. I had a heterotopic pregnancy where one of the twins was ectopic and the other one was not. Now I have a beautiful healthy son and I want to give him a sibling but the thought of another ectopic pregnancy and further complications really scare me.

@Mommatomiracle This is an old thread so you might not get many responses - I can point you in the direction of another thread through called ‘TTC after ectopic part 3’ - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/conception/4284875-ttc-after-ectopic-part-3?pg=1

There’s a lot of us on there who have had ectopics, some waiting to try again, some TTC, some pregnant and others now with rainbow babies. I had mine 2 weeks ago, there is hope 💕 that thread was invaluable because other people know exactly what you’re going through so I’d recommend checking it out Flowers
