DH is wondering if what you eat can give you a false positive on pregnancy tests?

I think this sounds unlikely but could he be right?

To clarify: pregnancy tests work by detecting human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), unless you're eating pregnant humans, I don't think there's going to be anything in your diet that causes a false positive.

Some cancers can release HCG and cause a false positive, but these are infinitesimally rare and more likely to be an issue if you are post-menopausal.

It is sometimes considered to be a false positive if HCG is detected very very early in a pregnancy which is later lost (often when a period is due and you wouldn't have known had you not tested early with a sensitive test). This is often referred to as a 'chemical pregnancy'.

But most of the time, a positive (however faint) is a positive.
