Short lutheal phase?

Hi all

I'm 36 and ttc #3. The first two happened so quickly, i was expecting the third one to be as easy but I suppose I'm not as young anymore. My cycles have gone shorter and now average between 25 to 26 days. Ive been tracking my ovulation and get a positive opk on day 14. So I guess it means I ovulate on day 15 or 16. It looks like I have barely 10 days before my new cycle starts. Has anybody experienced the same and still got pregnant? Any advice? Or positive stories? Xx

Place marking a bit because I'm in a similar boat. Thinking about trying for another but my LP is 25/26 days also and I've been wondering if this will have any impact.

WhatsInAName19 · 08/11/2019 23:03

Sorry, should say my cycle is 25/26 days. I think my LP is around 9/10 days. But I'm fairly new to tracking and I'm not putting lots of effort into predicting ovulation days right now.

Lilice · 08/11/2019 23:09

I never tracked with my first two pregnancies so I have no idea what my LP was then. However I did notice that my cycles have gone shorter in the last year so I imagine that could be the reason why it is not happening this time

I have, I had a 10 day luteral phase after I had a miscarriage in May. I've been taking these. The blue ones to lengthen the luteral phase and the others to help with egg quality.

Short lutheal phase?

10 days is considered normal still (10 to 16 days is the range) . I conceived twice with a 10 day luteal phase.

Lilice · 08/11/2019 23:29

What dosage do you take for the vitamin b complex? I bought the 100 one but im worried it's too strong as I take other supplements too. Have you noticed any improvement since taking it? I'll give the co enzyme a try. I saw it in the shop but didn't know what it was for x

That's good to hear, positive vibes! Although I don't known if mine is even 10 days. I'm afraid it might be shorter, if I ovulate 48 hours after the positive opk. I don't know exactly when I ovulate. Is there a way to know without a scan?

I had a short luteal phase when TTC (8/9 dats) with my two DC. Ended up down the IVF route and the doctors wouldn't listen to me about the luteal phase they thought it was irrelevant and just kept pushing for IVF.

I asked to try a progesterone supplement but they didn't even listen.

IVF failed but I fell naturally pregnant (with DC1) on my very next cycle (perhaps residual extra progesterone in my system from IVF?).

Struggled again ttc for DC2 went to see a different specialist who listened to me about luteal phase and agreed to prescribe progesterone. Fell pregnant immediately!!

Of course it could all be circumstantial. I can't remember how I had come to the conclusion that I needed progesterone (it was 8 years ago), but I was completely obsessed with tracking my cycle and doing as much medical research as possible!

Good luck

IlonaRN · 09/11/2019 00:03

I use a natural progesterone cream from confirmed ovulation (via temperatures) until menstruation.
It lengthens my luteal phase from 9 days to 14 days.

Lilice · 09/11/2019 00:55

Sounds very interesting. What's the cream called and where do you get it from? I'd like to give it a go

Putting a place marker on this thread, on my last cycle I only had 4-5 days between ovulation and AF 😔 so I think I'll look into supplements too.

Nobunintheovenyet · 09/11/2019 09:49

Hi ladies hope you don’t mind me jumping on here. First time posting and can totally relate here, my lp is around 8/9 days and I always have 2 days of spotting before hand. Am in the TTW - btw should be renamed for us. So will see what happens this month, if not I have purchased for vitamin B complex and Angus Castus for next month.

Sorry its not a postive story OP.

Lilice · 09/11/2019 14:13

Gonzales27 thank you for sharing your story. Im glad it worked out in the end. You mention you went to a specialist when planning your second pregnancy. Was it privately? I am thinking of booking an appointment with my GP to discuss this but not sure what she would do to help. I don't think I would qualify for ivf if it comes to that.

@Lilice

Both clinics were NHS.
The first was a very impressive highly respected research clinic, the second a much smaller clinic in a different county (i live on the border). I was recommended the specialist by someone else and just cold called them and convinced him to see me. It helped that I had all my notes from the big research clinic to show the new guy.

Gonzales27 · 09/11/2019 20:45

I should i that I went through the gp first both times. All they ever do is a standard set of blood tests and then a referral to specialist: they're. It interested in diagnosing further!

RachRainbow · 09/11/2019 21:02

Hi everyone I am in the same boat - TTC no.2 for 9 months now - I have 8/9 day luteal phase according to opks and my temping confirms it - no one listens!! I am being pushed into Ivf also which I would have to see fund - I had 3 miscarriages before conceiving my daughter again no help I research Angus castus myself and took it for 3 months straight while not TTC and fell pregnant a few months after and kept that pregnancy (with baby aspirin). I am visiting the recurrent miscarriage clinic in a couple of weeks so will see what they say - Tommy's have done some research to say progesterone can help with recurrent miscarriages but apparently will only prescribe progesterone if you are actually bleeding I think which I just find crazy but will know more once I see consultant - I am going to try and get my hands on some if I can but everyone ignore my concerns about luteal phase and prog yet all research says it's is essential to maintain a pregnancy and lack of can cause infertility so I don't u sweat and the resistance to trying it - I will pay for I!!! Sorry for the rant just feel so strongly about the lack of help around this area! Oh in also seeing a Chinese fertility acupuncturist which helped when I conceived my daughter she didn't dismiss my concerns and said she can help so we shall see!! Good luck everyone x

Lilice · 09/11/2019 22:35

Thanks everyone for your replies. I think I will go see my gp if I'm unlucky again this month xx

@RachRainbow Sorry to hear this. Sounds very familiar. I found out that the big clinic I went to was funded per IVF cycle.

Someone told me that there is still so much they don't understand about fertility and such a range of issues, the majority of which can only be solved by IVF, so they just push everyone down this route for simplicity and funding.

It's so frustrating because, from what I've heard, progesterone is cheap and safe so why not just let us try it!

Lilice · 02/12/2019 21:49

@IlonaRN where did you buy the cream and what is is called?

Last cycle failed again for me. I went for blood tests, between cd1 and 5, getting my results tomorrow. Ill ask her to send me for day 21 tests as well.
