Anovulation & TTC

Hello All

I am 29 and have been TTC sporadically for about a year. (A few months in total)

This cycle I didn't notice EWCM and my cycle was 5 days longer than normal at 33days. This has happened before and resulted in a heavy watery period and I believe I am experiencing anovulation during these longer heavier cycles as it also coincides with a lack of EWCM around the time of ovulation.

For those that have experienced anovulation have you managed to conceive in subsequent cycles? I have read research papers that show hormone levels are lower during ovulatory cycles if a women experienced even sporadic anovulation. I would be interested to hear if this impacts fertility and what steps I should take next.

Thank you so much for any insights you may have! Smile

I'm in a similar position.

I thought I was ovulating fine because I have pretty regular cycles. Most months of using OPKs would pick up the surge, but there were some months when I didn't use them because I was trying to "relax".

One month I had days and days of high OPKS but I didn't ever hit a peak. The month after I had a CD21 test which indicated I hadn't ovulated. The following month, the result was better so that indicates to me that some months I ovulate, some months I don't. I'm now on month 3 of Clomid and progesterone, but still no luck.

In practical terms, I think it is possible to conceive naturally (as long as there's nothing else at play), but it will just take longer. Obviously, the months you don't ovulate you will not conceive, but the months you do you have a chance.

In your shoes, I would get the ball rolling with fertility tests for both you and your partner if you don't want to give it a while longer. If you do decide to try naturally, then use OPKs and give it more of a concerted effort.

Thanks for your detailed message, this is my first post so it means a lot that I even got a reply.

I haven't tried OPKs so maybe that would be a good starting point too so I can learn more about each cycle. How soon did you visit your doctor?

Can you private message on Mumsnet?

Thanks again!

Have you tried temping your BBT? That is a good indicator of ovulation or lack of it. OPKs can help but you can still get a positive surge even if you don't actually ovulate. I wouldn't necessarily say you aren't ovulating just because you can't see any EWCM and have a slightly longer cycle some months. Some women don't get it at all and sometimes it's too high up in the cervix and doesn't come out so you don't see it.
If you are really concerned then visit your GP and tell them you have been trying a year and they should start some tests like the progesterone day 21 test.
