Clexane injections for next pregnancy

Evening, wonder if anyone can offer positive experiences of clexane and aspirin used in pregnancy? I have suffered from two miscarriages in the space of 8 months and after some private investigations I have been found to test positive for lupus anticoagulant. I have been advised by the specialist and the nurses that this is very easily treated and I will take aspirin and clexane daily from 5 weeks. She told me that I'm still relatively low in terms of risk. I'm just wondering what your experiences are of this treatment regime? I'm really hoping to catch again soon and for it to be successful. Thanks xxx

Hi! I have lupus and 2 previous MCs but tested negative for anti-coagulant and APS. I was on the same regime during the first trimester and was allowed to drop Clexane after 13 weeks, but stayed on aspirin until 36 weeks. I had a great pregnancy (no pre-e or reduced movements) and healthy baby girl by elective csection at 38 weeks. I did have an antibody issue caused by lupus but that had nothing to do with clotting.

I found this tutorial hugely helpful for the injections: (Clexane/Lovenox is the same thing she's injecting)
I was a bit squeamish about the burning sensation but this was greatly reduced using her ice pack & slow injecting method.

I had to stop aspirin at 36 weeks because I was getting nosebleeds every day in the third trimester. Even though the dose was low, the aspirin was making the bleeds significantly harder to stop. I was a bit worried because it felt like a safety net but it was only two weeks between that and my csection. The information on when to stop aspirin is spotty, some places mention 32 weeks when the risk of pre-e is over, other people have taken it up till delivery.

I read a lot online about women in similar situations, many having continued Clexane injections and aspirin throughout pregnancy. All of them ended up with babies so I'm sure you'll be just fine :)!!!

@NightOwl27 thank you so much for responding :) it means a lot to hear your story. I'm glad you had a happy ending after two losses. May I ask why you were tested after two mc? I had to go private which I'm glad I did. Hopefully my next pregnancy will be successful. In a way I'm glad I'm being proactive in my treatment plan. I've been told I will have the injections right through the full pregnancy. I'm a little nervous about it but I'm sure I will do fine. Take care xx

I didnt have Clexane during my pregnancy but had to after birth and 2 weeks from then and I hate needles at the best of times but it takes seconds no issues with it, as pp said about the burning but it's short lived. Best of luckSmile

@CourtneyB123 thanks for the response I'm feeling okay about it. I guess after the first one I will feel better. At the moment I'm just focusing on conceiving. Doesnt feel like it will.happen tho. After the miscarriage the symptoms I usually get after ovulation have stopped coming like sore boobs. I know I have ovulated though because I had positive opks. I'm panicking my progesterone is off but my specialist doesnt seem concerned with that x

@Claire78564 I also went private because I couldn't face the thought of having to go through a third MC. I was surprised how many doctors don't know much about anti-coagulant issues and recurrent MC. I requested testing from my rheumatologist and previous gynecologist after my 2nd MC but they tested for something entirely different (APC resistance) and were generally a bit dismissive. It was only after I got pregnant for the 3rd time I switched to another private doctor and he took it much more seriously especially as I already have lupus. He ran the entire range of tests and put me on the Clexane/aspirin combo.

Best of luck conceiving! Having a treatment plan in place definitely helps from the beginning because it feels like you are actively making a difference.

I don’t have lupus but do produce antibodies. A Heparin, Aspirin, and steroid protocol helped me to get my bfp.

@NightOwl27 my doctor going private was pretty good. She tested for a range of blood stuff and has given me a treatment plan. I just have little confidence in catching again and going full term.

@GrumpyHoonMain congrats of the BFP xx
