Does anyone else experience ovulation pains?

I get what I can only assume are ovulation pains mid cycle. Like a sharp pain in my side. Varies in side each month. Accompanied with a lovely bit of bloating! Anyone else get this??? Also, does this mean my egg has been released yet or just about to be released? I get home from a business trip tomorrow so planning on jumping on my man, but hoping I haven't missed the boat with this one this month!

Me too, sharp pains once a month that are on and off for a minute, come out if nowhere and take y breath away they do just as quickly though thankfully :)

GlitterSparkle85 · 15/10/2019 20:55

Same paired up with CM feels almost like period pain!

Derbee · 16/10/2019 00:48

I get this too, and I swear I can feel which side my egg is being released from Shock I’m sure my pain is a day or so before actual ovulation

Ifonlyfor1day · 16/10/2019 00:59

Yes every single time. Every two weeks my ovaries swell cause cramp for a few days.
Some women are more sensitive when I had a smear I found it uncomfortable like a mild contraction, she said some women are very sensitive around their female reproductive areas, others not so much, she said she can tell the difference in sensitive patients with smears.

Ifonlyfor1day · 16/10/2019 01:01

I think it is releasing a fresh egg? Just a guess.

DramaAlpaca · 16/10/2019 01:06

In 30 plus years of menstruating I never, ever experienced ovulation pain. I always knew when I was ovulating because of EWCM & my exactly 28 day cycle. It fascinates me that other women do, and how different we all are.

Ifonlyfor1day · 16/10/2019 01:16

Can I ask those who feel ovulation do you suffer bad pms.
I wondered if it is connected. Neither of my Dsis feel ovaluation or have bad PMS.
Both DM and I do.

NelliePig · 16/10/2019 05:58

@Ifonlyfor1day never had PMS, always had ovulation pains though! My period just shows up with no prior warning (other than me expecting it as my cycle is fairly regular)

PepperBetty · 16/10/2019 06:06

Yes every month. I have the pain and bloating. I don't think I've always had this but certainly a thing for the last few years. I don't think anyone else has mentioned the accompanying super libido (maybe just meHmm). Painful and a bit fabulous at the same time Blush

Mummaofmytribe · 16/10/2019 06:12

Sometimes my ovulation pain is worse than the period pains. Much shorter lived thankfully, but like a knife. My mum had it too.

TresDesolee · 16/10/2019 06:23

I read somewhere the pain is actually a temporary cyst in the Fallopian tube caused by irritation as the egg sort of gets a bit stuck on its way out. (Not something to worry about - the egg passes through after a while and the cyst resolved itself.) This might be a bit garbled though. And yes to the libido thing (although sadly waning for me as menopause approaches)

TresDesolee · 16/10/2019 06:24

In fact someone on MN years ago speculated about whether ovulation friskiness gives women an insight into how men feel all the time, given that we’re only fertile for those few days but men are constantly fertile!

sashh · 16/10/2019 06:33

As a child yes, the I went on the pill and it stopped.

Skygirl1983 · 16/10/2019 06:38

I'm so glad I'm not alone. It's gone now but was a bit uncomfortable for a few hours last night. According to my tracking it's pretty much bang on time and as I'm not home had no way of checking with an OPK. If I miss the boat this month I'll definitely be more aware of it next month as I have only just started considering an OPK. I have been getting pains like that for years now though and also suffer PMS quite bad at times. So maybe there is a link. I have noticed as I have gotten older my period symptoms have worsened compared to my younger days!

Yes - feels a bit like I’ve got a stitch for a day or so. I used to take Paracetamol and treat like period related pain, but very useful when I wanted to conceive and got pregnant first time every time.

onedayiwillmissthis · 16/10/2019 07:43

Look up 'mittelsmerz'...I suffered from this from puberty ...at 14 years old my doctor prescribed the pill which he told my mother would help (it didn't)...same doctor told me it would 'probably go after you have babies'...nope it didn't!

Pain would be so bad for that I could not walk, drive...function...people who saw me in that much pain would invariably suggest that I should go to hospital...but I knew I just had to wait it out.

Yay for menopause...no more ovulation pain...no more heavy periods and cramps Grin

Skygirl1983 · 16/10/2019 09:17

So what does everyone think, if I had the pain yesterday evening, will this evening be too late to catch anything, or was the pain indicating that I was about release an egg over the next day or so?

I had awful ovulation pains after DC1 - to the point could barely walk stomach was bloated and felt like ricks in my uterus - turned out I had severe issues with my Fallopian tubes post c section after having 2 ectopics and both tubes removed I'm pain free (and still ovulate every month)

TresDesolee · 16/10/2019 10:03

@skygirl I think you’d be at your most fertile for the 48 hours or so after the pains. (I’m not a doctor! But I think ova hang around for fertilisation for about that long)

Skygirl1983 · 16/10/2019 10:11

Fingers crossed then! Its frustrating being away from home but will get straight on it tonight Wink

Yes! I get really bad ovulation pain, I find it in some ways worse than menstrual cramps. It’s like a very intense stitch for around 12-24 hours right on the side around where I imagine the ovary is and it tends to alternate sides which is interesting as I had read that it’s a bit of a myth that you ovulate from alternate sides each cycle?

Anyway I’ve been trying to figure out if I get the pain before I ovulate, or as it’s happened. Apparently it can be inflammation in the ovary/Fallopian tube either before or after. Interestingly, I never had this before I had DC1 , although I was on the pill for basically my whole life up to that point so this is the first time I’ve experienced ‘real cycles’. It is fascinating learning more about your own body!

I found this article quite helpful Smile

Heronry · 16/10/2019 11:55

Yes, but not in any way debilitating, just small, sharp pinging type of pains, as if someone was pinging an elastic band against my insides -- I can always tell which ovary I'm ovulating from, but have never taken a note on whether it alternates monthly...

PulpHorn · 16/10/2019 12:50

I do since having my DC. Once it was so bad I went to the GP who reassured me (lasted all day and I was in bed with it). Can feel a sharp twinge on one side now most months
