Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone has any experience with their DP being on antidepressants while TTC?

DP has been prescribed fluoxitine and from a very brief Google a few things came up about it affecting male fertility and potentially increasing risk of issues and miscarriage 😔 feel like we'll never get our PFB at this rate

Thanks guys

My partner has been on Sertraline for 8 years and we managed to conceive quickly.

Hopefully you get your positive soon 🤞

@MiaNG thank you for sharing your experience! That's helped me feel a bit more reassured!!

@jurassiclover Hi just wondering how long your dp has been on his tablets? my husband has been on his for the last couple of years. He has tried to come off them and was so poorly I really don't want to see him go through that again so haven't mentioned the tablets potentially having a negative impact. Has your Dp discussed this with his gp? X

Jurassiclover · 05/11/2019 10:44

@Nic555 hey, he's only been on them a month, so far they're not helping him much to be honest, the side effects have been horrid for him bless him :(

@jurassiclover I remember the side affects being bad at first but eventually he will start feeling better. I'm a firm believer in taking medication to help a mental illness. If it was a physical condition it wouldn't even be questioned. Finger crossed he's better soon and the TTC goes well xx

My DH was on anti depressants and it absolutely nuked his sperm and we had to go for ivf - 6 months after he came off them we got pregnant naturally

Jurassiclover · 05/11/2019 18:11

@Nic555 yeah he's got his medication review coming up soon so he can obviously discuss with his doctor etc he's just been constantly vomiting at the minute which is affecting his job, so hopefully doctor can help him out with that! We conceived first month of TTC but ended in a MC so back TTC again now, hoping all goes well! Hoping all goes well for you too!xx

@jurassiclover hopefully after his review he can try some different things and find something that works for him

Sorry to hear about your MC that must have been tough on you both

Wishing you all the best

My DP has been on serterline for around 4 years.
We had ivf for MFI BUT what I am saying is we had a sperm test on the meds and a year off the meds and they were exactly the same. Made no different at all. Ivf was unsuccessful so he’s made the decision to go back on them and I support this as I know it made no different. He just takes good quality fertility vitamins

Nic555 · 07/11/2019 19:42

@GreyC thanks for sharing that is really reassuring. Fingers crossed for you on your TTC journey x

Hi @Jurassiclover I always feel like such a conspiracy theorist when it comes to this one but I think they impacted my husband's fertility. He was on a low dose of SSRIs (Citalopram) until Feb this year. He came off as we'd read they could cause issues and by that point we'd been trying for a good 6+ months to conceive with no sucess (our 2 y/o son was conceived first cycle).

They take 3 months to pass through your system, which for him would have been May, and what do you know I conceived that month. Sadly this ended in miscarriage end of July. Since then I've had 2 more cycles of trying and conceived on the second.

So... who knows, but I'm now more of a believer that they do impact (some) men. I should add he was super lucky that he was able to come off with limited impact to his mental health, and I'm v aware this isn't an option for many.

@GreyC hey, thank you for the info!
