Ttc after testing positive for lupus anticoagulant

Hi, so as my subject title suggests I have just been diagnosed with lupus anticoagulant. I have had 2 miscarriages in the space of 8 months. One at 6 weeks and the other at 11. Needless to say I am feeling like giving up. I have had to go private to get this diagnosis as NHS told me u would have to have 3 miscarriages before they would look into why this is happening. From a young age I've never felt confident that I would have a baby and it's starting to look that way.i guess I'm on here trying to hear some success stories that can I e me some hope. The specialist says it's a simple fix but I just dont know what this means for the future. Anyone had this problem and have healthy babies after treatment? I feel like my body has completely let me down and feel terribly guilty towards my husband xx

Yes I had SLE but largely non symptomatic now

I had to take baby aspirin and inject clexane every day during pregnancy until 20 weeks after

After DC1 I've still gone on to have another 5 mc so obviously not just the lupus as play for me

I would ensure you take the test results to your NHS doctor so that as soon as you get pregnant again you are seen by a specialist

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted tha j you for responding. I haven't been given much info yet as I have only just been diagnosed. When you say SLE What does this stand for? I have an appointment next week to discuss further. I'm sorry to hear you have had more losses. Have you had investigations about this? How was your pregnancy for the baby you were successful with? Thanks for responding xx

SLE stands for systemic lupus something. It is the full term.

I had a diagnosis prior to ttc so my main issue was getting off immunosuppressive medicine to try, but now wondering if my delay in conception is down to my immune system. Really shocked by the NHS not diagnosing you, or giving more advice

We saw consultant together before starting to ttc. We are in Scotland though so maybe more funding here. Have you tested for anti ro too?

@Claire78564
Systemic lupus erythematosus
I had a loss at 12 weeks before DC which is what prompted the doctors to act second time around although at that time I was only getting a weak positive for lupus

I found the pregnancy bit easy although the daily injections were difficult once bump got bigger

I have had testing for recurrent miscarriages and now with a private IVF clinic as have found NHS often slow to act - wasn't going to be put on medication till past 12 weeks and my miscarriages happened before that point

Despite being on clexane and aspirin for last 2 miscarriages I lost them anyway so we are having genetic testing done now

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted @theotherfossilsister thanks for getting in touch. I had to go private to get these answers as after the second loss they told me it was 3 where the nhs would step in. I was told I tested positive for lupus anticoagulant which apparently is not lupus as such. I have no symptoms so I'm.hoping that I can be third time lucky and that the treatment does work. I've read it has an 80% chance of success so I'm hopeful. Do you know if this condition affects ovulation, etc?

I was told it didn't affect ovulation, but recently found out that diclofenac - one of the pain meds they prescribe for it - might, although if you don't have Lupus as such then hopefully you don't need that? I think this might be why I have been trying so long, though ovulation sticks have been positive.

What is the fix you are trying? I am taking baby aspirin and folic acid, and trying not to take the diclofenac. I am terrified that I will have to go back on immunosupressants though, and then it will be game over for TTC.

My antibody is different to yours I think. Anti Ro just means you need lots and lots of scans.

Hmm well usually I ovulate fine although this cycle seems to be out of whack. It's the second since mc and usually have ovulated by now but not happened yet as no positive opk and I dont have any ewcm this month. It sounds as if your condition is different to mine but we are in a better situation than most. They said aspirin a.d heparin so hopefully that will work x
